However, there are some important things to keep in mind when building a birdhouse, so you don’t attract predators and to make it as comfortable as possible for birds. There are also many things other things you can do to make your garden bird friendly if you don’t want to build a birdhouse.

Building a Birdhouse

If you’re doing it, do it right – so ensure it’s constructed. The last thing you want to do is build a low-quality birdhouse as you want to ensure the birds are comfortable with it. Use untreated wood such as cedar and pine and use galvanized screws to get the best seal.

Another incredibly important aspect of a birdbhouse is that it keeps birds dry. A sloped roof made to overhang the front by a few inches will stop heavy rain from entering the birdhouse. If a birdhouse is too much of a take-on, there are some other options. Doing things like placing a feeder in your garden will also encourage birds to visit your garden. You can even inspire birds to build their own nests by providing hedging with cover.

Finally, to Keep it Green, use Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified wood.
