The Green Living Guy

NEW YORK, March 28, 2018 /PRNewswire/ — The Road to World Car journey concluded at the New York International Auto Show. However, it concluded with declaring the NISSAN LEAF as the 2018 World Green Car.

First of all, Nissan LEAF launched in 2010. They have been able to put more than 300,000 zero-emission electric vehicles on the road worldwide. As we know, this is helping to cut carbon footprints around the globe. These comments came from Daniele Schillaci who’s Executive Vice President, Global Marketing and Sales, Zero Emission Vehicle and Battery Business.

The NISSAN LEAF selected from a first entry list of four new vehicles from all over the world, then a short list of three finalists as announced in Geneva earlier this month:  the BMW 530e iPerformance, Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid and Nissan LEAF.

To be eligible for the 2018 World Green Car award, a vehicle had to be all-new, or substantially revised, in production and introduced for sale or lease to the public in quantities of at least 10 in at least one major market during the period beginning January 1, 2017 and ending May 31, 2018.  Tailpipe emissions, fuel consumption, and use of a major advanced power plant technology (beyond engine components), aimed specifically at increasing the vehicle’s environmental responsibility, were all taken into consideration.

The Road to the World Car began in Frankfurt on September 19, 2017 and following by our first-ever Tokyo Test Drive conducted at the BMW Tokyo Bay facility in October giving jurors yet another opportunity to check contenders that aren’t available in their home markets. Then, the fourth annual “L.A. Test Drives” took place across a six-day period in November with a record number of 35 jurors participating. The “Top Three In The World” finalists announced earlier this month at the Geneva motor show.  The Road to World Car journey ended today at the New York International Auto Show with declaring the winners in all categories.

As a result, 2018 marks the 12th year of World Car’s partnership with the New York show. As well as, the fifth consecutive year that the World Car Awards have retained their ranking as the No.1 automotive awards program in the world. Also, in terms of media reach.

The Global Trends Report, co-presented annually by Prime Research and Autoneum, will also be announced during the New York show press conference and media breakfast. The report is culminating research and insights across the past six months.

Likewise, electrification, autonomous driving, connectivity and A.I. will continue to enhance the industry. So World Car is proud to be a part of this amazing journey along with the New York International Auto Show. As well as Prime Research, Bridgestone, Autoneum, KPMG and Newspress.
