First off, the trees provide us with more than we can imagine. So the first Arbor
Day took place back in 1872.  That’s when one man garnered the [help of his community](https://greenlivingguy.com/2014/04/arbor-day-2014-history-growth-and-how-to-celebrate/)
to fill the flat plains of [Nebraska](https://greenlivingguy.com/2006/09/toilet-paper-environmental-facts/)
with trees. So cool of an idea. SO so darn cool. Today, it is a [holiday](https://greenlivingguy.com/2021/12/9-ways-to-have-a-happy-green-holiday/)
celebrated across the U.S. and around the globe.

### Trees for your Home

There are many benefits to having trees in your home. These benefits include lowering
your home’s energy costs and cooling costs, reducing the amount of allergens in
the air, providing shade for your home, shielding you from UV rays, [reducing the amount of airborne pollutants](https://greenlivingguy.com/2014/04/arbor-day-2014-history-growth-and-how-to-celebrate/),
acting as a sound barrier and reducing the potential for flooding in the event of
a storm. The best way to take advantage of these benefits is by having a grove of
trees in your home. One of the best ways to get started is by planting trees in
pots. This is also a great way to introduce children to the wonders of trees.

#### Vital to Life

Firstly, trees are vital to life on this planet as they give oxygen, intercept pollutants,
stabilize soil, and give shelter and sustenance to wildlife. Furthermore and most
important, the same amount of carbon dioxide that is emitted by a car.  A car driving
26,000 miles.  Yes one tree equals that amount absorbed by one acre of mature trees.
over a year period. Furthermore, trees are incredibly powerful and they need to
be protected.

Did you also know that trees are responsible for keeping our air clean. Moreover
and making our planet a habitable place to live? Moreover, trees are important to
our health. As well as our well-being, and our environment. On [Arbor Day](https://greenlivingguy.com/2017/05/trugreen-partners-with-arbor-day-foundation-to-distribute-free-trees-to-communities-in-need/),
we celebrate trees, the benefits they provide and the importance of planting new
trees in our community.

#### Reflection

On this important day, let’s also remember to take a moment to appreciate the many
other benefits trees offer in our communities and to remark on how many trees we
already have! The best way to do this is to get outside, put on your rain boots,
and go for a walk around the block with your tree friends to see how many you can
spot. Or, better yet, have a viewing party where you all get together at a home
outside and enjoy a picnic, beverage, and some fun education about trees and their
role in the environment.

This Arbor Day graphic maps out the many benefits of [trees](https://greenlivingguy.com/2025/11/rare-tree-species-and-their-environmental-impact/)
and how people can make an impact in their communities on this year’s Arbor Day,
coming up on April 27th.

### Plant in your Yard one

If you plant a tree in your front yard, it will provide shade and reduce heat in
your yard. If you plant a tree in your backyard, it will provide shade and reduce
heat in your home. So plant a tree in your city. For it will reduce air pollution,
spread oxygen, and also help cool the area. A relatively new way of thinking about
trees is that they are not only positive environmental assets, but also a critical
source of oxygen.

Oxygen is crucial for life. For having trees in the city is important for everyone’s
health. That’s especially for children, older people and the physically disadvantaged.

##### Arbor Day Foundation Suggest Plant Tree By Children Bedrooms

The next step is to plant a tree in your child’s bedroom. If you have a child who
is hyperactive or has ADHD, you might think, “Why would I want to put a tree in
his room?” The answer is that a tree planted in your child’s room will provide him
or her with a sunny and calming space. The same [concept applies when you plant](https://greenlivingguy.com/2026/07/filtro-vivo-the-innovative-plant-wall-concept/)
a tree in your backyard. When the weather becomes hot and humid, it’s important
to have a shady spot in your backyard, or in your screened-in porch, or even in
just one of your windows.

A tall tree provides that kind of shade. It can also provide an outlet for your
child’s creativity.

#### Provide shade and reduce heat

If you have a tree in your front yard, it will provide shade and reduce heat in
your yard. If you have a tree in your backyard, it will provide shade and reduce
heat in your home. If you have a tree in your city, it will reduce air pollution,
spread oxygen, and help cool the area. A relatively new way of thinking about trees
is that they are not only positive environmental assets, but also a critical source
of oxygen.

Again, oxygen is crucial for life. Especially so having trees in the city is important
for everyone’s health. That’s most important for children, older people and also
the physically disadvantaged.

#### Conclusion

Finally, it covers facts and stats on trees importance. Then it goes into how we
all benefit from them.  Yes we all benefit from trees. That’s including how over
a year, one acre of mature trees do what? Believe it or not, they absorb the same
amount of CO2 that emits from a car. To be clear folks, that’s 26,000 miles worth
of driving in a year.
