I love green living and trying to find new ways to bring it into my home. And the great thing about choosing to go green and use eco-friendly products is that you don’t have to do it all at once, you can make small changes and introduce an eco-friendly lifestyle to your home over time.

Often, we may think our lifestyle isn’t that harmful to the environment but there are ways that we can work on it to make it better for our ecosystem and ourselves. Here to help you learn how to be environmentally friendly in your daily life are these great tips.

1. Reevaluate Your Current Lifestyle

Before you can begin your green living lifestyle you will need to take a good look at what you currently do in your daily life. Go through each room in your house and take a look at ways you can introduce eco-friendly products into your routine.

Consider, for example, your bathroom and the products you use in this room. This includes toilet paper, your cleaning supplies, your makeup or cleansing routine, etc. A small change could be to buy some eco-friendly toilet paper or to make your own cleaning supplies using simple, green ingredients.

For each room in your house that you evaluate, create a list of possible changes you could make with regards to being environmentally friendly. And consider how your environmental choices affect what you do outside of the home; grocery shopping, lawn care, how you get around your neighborhood, to name but a few.

2. Say No to Plastic

One of the easiest and most effective ways to help with your green living project is to limit your use of plastic. This includes not purchasing plastic water bottles and using a reusable one, a very easy change to make, as well as limiting your plastic bag use at the grocery store by bringing in your own reusable bags. Also, consider the packaging on a product versus another similar product.

3. Reduce Chemically-Saturated Products

Unfortunately, chemicals are in so many of the products we use, from our shampoo to our laundry detergent, our air fresheners to some of the pre-packaged food we consume. In some cases, we can eliminate the chemicals that affect us and the environment by making our own products.

Therefore, cleaning supplies with a simple mixture of vinegar, water, lemon juice. As well as some essential oils are all natural. To think, and it will still give you a great clean! One that is also environmentally conscious. You can also limit the chemicals that enter your world. First off by purchasing eco-friendly products. Most are relatively similar in cost compared to those products that are packed with chemicals.

4. Consider Your Carbon Footprint

Your carbon footprint is the effect you have on the environment and is based on your carbon dioxide emissions (the greenhouse effect) over the period of your lifespan. You can lower your carbon footprint by focusing on a few environmental changes.

Consider biking, walking, public transportation in lieu of your car whenever you can. Take shorter showers, use less electricity, purchase smart devices for your home to help you keep an eye on your electrical consumption. These tricks will also you help reduce your utility bill, a win-win if you ask me.

And don’t forget to try buying local food or plant your own garden, or even have a meatless day or two to lower your impact on the environment as a whole. These small changes will not only help with your eco-friendly lifestyle, but will also help keep some money in your wallet.

5. Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle

We have all had this expression drilled into our heads. Yet, how much of it do we actually follow? So are you reducing your water consumption by turning off the faucet when you brush your teeth? Are you reusing that torn shirt as a rag to wash your car?

And yes, you are likely recycling your bottles and cardboard boxes. However, are more interestingly are you recycling your used batteries and electrical devices? You know, instead of throwing them in the garbage? You can look up online what is acceptable to recycle in your neighborhood.

And please, pay attention to the pictures on the garbage and recycling receptacles. Also, be sure you are recycling what is actually recyclable. As well as throwing out what is garbage. Finally, being a little more conscious about your environment will go a long way. A long way toward and into green living.
