Organic eating and farming is up! That’s according to figures presented by Swiss institute FIBL and IFOAM (International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements) at Biofach (Nuremberg). In addition, 2017 was another record year for the organic sector worldwide. Thereby registering a growth in turnover. That’s as well as, businesses and cultivated areas.
“The World of organic agriculture” report talks about over €92 billion total turnover. That means 2.9 million producers and 69.8 billion hectares cultivated using organic techniques. The organic cosmetic sector is also doing well with a global turnover of €15 billion in 2017.
“Organic productions are growing both in Europe and the US as well as in smaller countries,” explainsCCPBCEO Fabrizio Piva.
Italy plays a leading role when it comes to production, cultivated areas and consumption. It is the European country with the largest number of processing facilities (18,000) and it is the second leading exporter after the US when it comes to value (almost €2 billion in 2017). “This show how Italy is a leading organic producer on an international level.”
