Back when Tesla was a scrappy new car startup in NYC was their only local store in Chelsea area. They ask for my license and say they can only give me the Roadster Sport because the Roadster was just bought. 😱
So the Tesla Roadster is an electric sports car. It also is the car that sits inside the February 2018 Falcon Heavy test flight.
The Tesla people in New York City allowed me to drive the 2010 Tesla Roadster Sport. Besides the fact that I got some great video around Times Square and around town, the acceleration on this car is draw dropping.
As I got into this low to the ground sportscar I couldn’t help think how this car was historic and EPIC at the same time. To be in a leading electric car of the time and to also be in the highest end version of the Roadster was totally humbling and amazing at the same time.

The best part was driving around NYC while Times Square was prepping for New Years Eve. Was so cool to see while driving through Times Square on the night prior to New Years. Talk about the calm before the storm!
The Roadster Sport did 0 to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds, compared with 3.9 seconds for the standard Roadster. It comes with a hand-wound stator and increased winding density for lower resistance and higher peak torque. In addition to Yokohama’s Ultra High Performance tires, the Roadster Sport has improved suspension with adjustable dampers and anti-roll bars that will be tuned to the driver’s preference.
The Roadster Sport starts at $128,500 in the United States and €112,000 (excluding VAT) in Europe. Deliveries began in late June 2008.
The Roadster Sport is the first derivative of Tesla’s proprietary, patented powertrain. San Carlos, Calif. It based Tesla plans to begin producing the all-electric, zero-emssion Model S five-passenger sedan in 2011.
Regardless, the Tesla Roadster Sport is an all electric vehicle sports car. It is based on the Lotus Elise chassis. that was produced by Tesla Motors (now Tesla, Inc.) in California. They produced it from 2008 to 2012. However, I drove the Roadster Sport!
It is the first highway legal real-deal production electric car. It uses lithium-ion battery cells. Also, the first production all-electric car to travel more than 245 miles per charge with 288 hp.
Some vehicles will forever hold a special place in people’s hearts. For the Tesla community, that car would be the original Roadster, a car that broke the mold of conventional electric vehicles when it was released. With the Roadster, Tesla proved that electric cars did not have to look and perform like glorified golf carts — they can be fast, sleek, and sexy too.
As Teslarati reported, the original Roadster garnered a lot of awards during its time. On October 27, 2009, for one, the Tesla Roadster set a world distance record for production electric cars, traveling 501 km (311 miles) on a single charge. In March 2010, the sports car also became that first electric vehicle to win the Monte Carlo Alternative Energy Rally, with Formula One driver Erik Comas driving an Arctic White Roadster to dominate the three-day, 1,000-km (620-mile) event.
While it was a quick test. Like an hour and a half to be exact. However it was an unbelievable ride. 0-60 in like 3.7 seconds. It was the last time I drove through Times Square before they closed it forever now (it’s a pedestrian park now).
To be clear. It is extremely low to the ground. I believe when we turned a street we were at points eye level with the sidewalk.
However it is so fast! You just got somewhere. It is like nothing ever experienced. Period.
