## Food Waste Globally

Let’s talk food waste [globally](https://greenlivingguy.com/2015/05/food-waste-campaign-from-green-is-universal/).
According to the [USEPA, ](https://www.epa.gov/sustainable-management-food)35 million
tons of food waste reach landfills and incinerators each year. Again, that’s food
waste. However, that’s largest part of the pie is in the United States.

#### This must be prevented and also used to feed people.

As well as compost for reuse as fertilizer for future crops.

In conclusion, and JUST to REMIND everyone, food waste globally is certainly thrown
in landfills. There it most definitely rots. Again, think of food waste and that
stench. Especially when you open a full trash can outside your home? Well, that
is a significant source of methane.

Did you know that methane is also a serious greenhouse gas? All with **21 times
the global warming potential of carbon dioxide. **Again, let us not forget that
[landfills](https://greenlivingguy.com/2023/05/food-help-meal-how-reduce-food-waste-home/)
are a major source of human-related methane.  Especially in the USA alone. For this
is more than 20 percent of all methane emissions.

#### As mentioned:

Proper waste management of food waste globally plays a crucial role in cleanliness.
and our communities collective health and safety. Moreover act locally: think food
waste globally. I mean especially when thinking of the population. Thereby offering
so many benefits both to the environment and to the people.

### Environmental Benefits for Food Waste

Finally, the environmental benefits of proper waste management are listed.  They
include:

 1. Improving air and water quality
 2. Reducing greenhouse gas emissions and pollution
 3. Decreasing the need to manufacture new materials
 4. Turning recyclable waste into useful substances such as compost and waste energy
 5. Conserving space in landfills and thereby diminishing the production of harmful
    substances;
 6. Conserving natural resources such as water, minerals, and timber
 7. Increasing safety in the workplace and community.

In addition, waste collection companies do their part to relocate food waste globally.
That’s to areas where it can be disposed of in a safe manner.

### Wrapping Up

In doing so, they help to prevent the [depletion](https://greenlivingguy.com/2012/01/central-connecticut-state-university-wins-recycling-challenge/)
of our natural resources. Then all the while reducing issues resulting from food
waste streams globally. They also sort the waste into recyclable columns. These
reduce the cost of production of many products. Products like paper, plastic, glass,
etc. Finally, encouraging the 3 Rs – reduce, reuse, and recycle.

Finally and in conclusion, here is an infographic of how serious food waste globally
and landfills are really in the USA.
