As I have written before regarding the need for offices to get green, this infographic came across my desk. Let’s visit the paper problems inside of the office.
The office printer
The printer is a common enemy of making an eco-friendly office. Let’s not forget that the average US office worker. They go through 10,000 sheets of printer paper per year. So it’s incredibly important to use that paper wisely.
Offices just have to recycle. This goes from when that office prints notes, faxes or drafts on the back of previously printed documents. Also, try the chlorine-free paper approach. That approach has a high percentage of post-consumer product materials; which basically means the paper is partially made from recycled materials.
As I have reported too, Staples started selling 100 percent recycled paper towels. 60 percent post consumer and 40 percent post industrial waste. No trees used!
Remanufactured ink cartridges are another excellent option when looking at making a green office. Each recycled cartridge keeps about two-and-a-half pounds of metal and plastic out of landfills, plus it saves half a gallon of oil.
Finally, there’s no denying offices and universities across the country are going green. In just two decades, green offices have gone from being quirky and odd to mainstream. Greener construction is now a major driver of local business and jobs. It’s big business for the construction industry, but how does it impact those within the buildings?
