One of the best ways in which you can avoid waste is to choose to grow plants from seed. You can save your own seeds or swap them with other friends passionate about this hobby. In some cases, you will need to buy them, but it’s money well invested as you are making the Earth a little greener.

Toilet rolls

It must sound surprising that you can use toilet rolls for anything, but you’ll find them as being very useful in various DIYs so when it comes to your home garden. So you shouldn’t be shocked to see them as the top eco-recommendation. These products have a great size for seedlings and creating the base is really simple. I mean you just fold one end over.

If you plan on having a big garden, it’s very possible that you won’t find enough of them, but there are Facebook groups in which you can trade them. Yes, it sounds weird if you’re new to this, but it’s a real thing and a very useful one at that. Even if you don’t plan on using them, you can chat up with someone and donate them as they’ll surely appreciate it.

Newspapers

There are other options out there, of course, as recommended by silverlakefarms.com and one of them is the newspaper. You can simply fold them in origami-style. So now I say BAM!  For you’ve got yourself a pot. This means you won’t even have to use glue or tape. I mean or any other type of tool and everything is finished in about a minute.

You may also gravitate toward them more than toward toilet paper. For as you won’t have to search for a place to store them. Just take some old newspapers and you can make all the pots that you want in just a couple of minutes.

If you want to, you can make more complex pots out of newspaper by using some wood. In this version, you only need to wrap the newspaper around a cylinder. Then start pressing so that you can get a base. This is, naturally, just an example, and if you wish to follow the simpler procedure, more power to you!

Biodegradable pots

You can find on the market biodegradable pots that are created from polylactic acid, but you can find the same thing under different names such as PLA plastic, plant-based plastic, and cornstarch. This is created from plant material, not from fossil fuel like the common polyester is.

You can even find some models which are compostable. However, you should know that this means they are compostable only in certain conditions. The product should also come with a “certified compostable” label. That’s without that label. So there’s a chance the product isn’t really compostable. Alternatively, you could opt for recycled plant pots which are made from recycled plastic and can be recycled again at the end of their use to create a closed cycle system.

In conclusion, they are the eco-friendly option that you can use. Finally so replacing the classic fossil-fuel plastic pots. You ought to be able to reuse these pots a couple of times before they will start to break down.
