Let’s talk organic agriculture. Because Organic eating and farming is up!  That’s
according to [figures](https://www.freshplaza.com/article/9072929/italy-holds-a-leading-position-on-the-international-organic-market/)
presented by Swiss institute FIBL and IFOAM (International Federation of Organic
Agriculture Movements). They are located at Biofach (Nuremberg). In addition, 2017
was another record year for the organic agriculture and the entire sector worldwide.
Thereby registering a growth in turnover. That’s  as well as, businesses and cultivated
areas.

As I’ve written before:

First off, the number of certified organic agriculture or farms in the United States
increased 11 percent in 2016 to 14,217 from the previous year. That’s according
to the latest available data from the [U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agriculture Statistics Service](https://www.nass.usda.gov/Publications/Highlights/2017/2016_Certified_Organic_Survey_Highlights.pdf).
In addition, it has gone up 56 percent since 2011.

Sales of certified organic products have also skyrocketed in recent years. That’s
as American farms and ranches sold nearly $7.6 billion in certified organic goods
in 2016. I mean that’s more than double the $3.5 billion in sales in 2011. All according
to the [Pew Research Center](https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2019/01/10/organic-farming-is-on-the-rise-in-the-u-s/).

#### So even despite the vast growth, organic farming still makes up only less than one percent of U.S. agricultural farmland overall.

“_The World of__ organic agriculture_” report talks about over €92 billion total
turnover. That means 2.9 million producers and 69.8 billion hectares cultivated
using organic techniques. The organic cosmetic sector is also doing well with a
global turnover of €15 billion in 2017.

“Organic productions are growing both in Europe and the US as well as in smaller
countries,” explains **[CCPB](http://www.ccpb.it/) **CEO Fabrizio Piva**.**

Italy plays a leading role when it comes to production, cultivated areas and consumption.
It is the European country with the largest number of processing facilities (18,000)
and it is the second leading exporter after the US when it comes to value (almost
€2 billion in 2017). “This show how Italy is a leading organic producer on an international
level.”

CCPB is a certifying body specializing in organic and sustainable agriculture and
had two stands at Biofach for food (Hall 4-511) and for cosmetic products (Hall
7A-551).
