#### Evolve NY to Expand Electric Vehicle Fast Charging Along Key Corridors. All to Create New NYC Airport Charging Hubs. As well as Establish EV Model Communities Over Seven-Year Program

So Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced a new $250 million [electric vehicle](https://greenlivingguy.com/2020/03/electric-vehicles-the-future-of-transportation-2/)
expansion initiative. It’s called EVolve NY. It’s also being implemented by the
New York Power Authority.

So in addition to state funding, the program will also seek to create private sector
partnerships through 2025. All most importantly to aggressively accelerate the adoption
of electric vehicles throughout [New York State](https://greenlivingguy.com/2020/02/new-york-state-working-hard-to-catch-up-with-californias-energy-storage-requirements/).
NYPA will also be launching several new innovative initiative. One to consequently
co-invest with private sector partners. Also collaborate with partners on identifying
new business and ownership models. Moreover it’ll increase customer awareness about
[electric vehicles](https://greenlivingguy.com/2020/04/electric-vehicles-creating-2-trillion-for-economy-by-2040/)
and [charging](https://greenlivingguy.com/2015/01/bmw-vw-and-chargepoint-go-fast-charging-network-across-usa/).

#### Most importantly, this major investment plan aims to expand fast charging infrastructure. Thereby making EVs more user-friendly for all New Yorkers.

All These Spots Will have Fast Charger Locations across NYS Interstate routes and
Thruways

“Electric vehicles started in Buffalo in 1902,” **said Lieutenant Governor Kathy
Hochul.** “I’m proud of that history, and now we’re moving away from gas vehicles
again and toward the [future of electric vehicles](https://greenlivingguy.com/2020/03/electric-vehicles-the-future-of-transportation-2/).
This significant investment will add [charging stations](https://greenlivingguy.com/2020/02/bmw-donates-100-new-electric-vehicle-charging-stations-for-americas-national-parks/)
in key areas. For it is allowing people to travel across the state with the opportunity
to [recharge](https://greenlivingguy.com/2011/05/volvo-recharge-concept-124-miles-per-gallon/).
Also it’s encouraging more New Yorkers to use electric vehicles. This investment
complements our ambitious energy goals of reducing emissions. All in helping to
lower costs and protect the environment.”

Most noteworthy, EVolve NY is a most noteworthy key pillar of the Governor’s [Charge NY](https://greenlivingguy.com/2016/01/charge-ev-ny-initiative-a-new-era-for-drivers/)
2.0 initiative. One which aims to encourage and support electric car adoption. All
by increasing the number of fast charging stations statewide. It will help bring
the State closer to its goal of installing at least 10,000 EV charging stations
by the end of 2021.

Over the next seven years, NYPA is committing up to $250 million. All to partner
with the private sector and other key stakeholders. All to attract longer-term private
investment and collaborate on programs that will amplify the Governor’s Charge NY
2.0 program. In addition it will address key infrastructure and potential market
gaps. The funding will be awarded through the state’s competitive procurement process.

This initiative moreover builds on New York State’s major, multi-agency clean transportation
efforts. One making EVs more affordable and accessible. As well as helping accelerate
Governor Cuomo’s ambitious Reforming the Energy Vision strategy. One that’s also
expected to lead the fight against climate change. Also grow New York’s economy.
All by building a cleaner, more resilient and affordable energy system.

#### The initial phase of funding directs $40 million to be allocated. Some of the new programs through the end of 2019, including:

 * **Interstate Fast Chargers** – Collaborate with the private sector, and other
partners, to identify and install up to 200 direct current (DC) fast chargers
   along key interstate corridors. That’s with a target interval of every 30 miles;
even in select urban areas. DC fast chargers have the potential to charge the
latest EV models in as little as 10 minutes for 200 miles of range. NYPA will
collaborate with partners to determine optimal locations focusing on accessibility,
convenience, affordability, and reliability of charging.
 * **Airport Fast Chargers** – Leverage public and private partnerships to install
DC fast chargers at or near John F. Kennedy and LaGuardia airports. With more
than 20 million passenger car trips around the airports annually, its an EV charging
hub. For it has the potential to serve EV drivers within a 200 mile-radius of
New York City. Program features may include promoting charger use by multiple
users including rideshare companies. Also public vehicles, rental agencies, airport/
commercial fleets and potentially buses. This advance will add to the medium-
speed (Level 2) chargers already at the airports in indoor parking garages.

In conclusion, New York has a long history of delivering affordable and accessible
EV initiatives and infrastructure throughout the state. NYPA is currently installing
400 public chargers at airports, train stations, and municipal parking lots and,
as recently [announced](https://www.governor.ny.gov/news/governor-cuomo-announces-42-million-expansion-high-speed-electric-vehicle-charging-stations),
high-speed chargers have been installed on the New York State Thruway.

#### That’s also with 23 service areas planned between New York City and Buffalo.

Moreover, additional funding and programs from the Department of Environmental Conservation,
the [Thruway Authority](https://greenlivingguy.com/2013/08/the-boys-building-racecars-or-are-they-electric/),
the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority and other state agencies.
That’s as well as investment by [Electrify America](https://www.electrifyamerica.com/).
Finally, for it will complement NYPA’s efforts. Therefore it’ll help bridge any
gaps to unlock private investment.
