The new tyre label or tyre labeling, helps the [Green Deal](https://greenlivingguy.com/2013/01/whats-the-green-deal-in-the-uk/)
objective. One to involve and benefit consumers in the climate transition. Especially
as it allows consumers to make informed choices. All the while and at the same time
contributing towards safer and cleaner road transport. These comments came from
Henna Virkkunen MEP. Henna is responsible for the tyre labeling law. That’s ahead
of the approval in the European Parliament.

#### Reducing rolling resistance of tyres helps to 󠀁[lower emissions from cars](https://greenlivingguy.com/2011/07/sustainability-seals-the-deal-ford-recycles-tires-and-soybean-oil-in-the-engine-compartment/)󠁿 while providing cost savings to consumers thanks to lower fuel consumption.

“Not only will the climate benefit from the new tyre label, it will also have broader
benefits for the environment in the future”, Virkkunen underlined.

“The unintentional release of particles from tyres accounts for the majority of
[microplastics](https://greenlivingguy.com/2019/12/plastic-so-much-plastic-everywhere/)
released into the environment. The new rules address this pressing issue by including
parameters of mileage and abrasion as soon as suitable testing methods become available”,
she concluded.

As I’ve written before, the Center for International Environmental Law ([CIEL](https://www.ciel.org/plasticandclimate/))
reporting on this matter. I mean amidst growing the concern about the impacts of
plastic. Especially on the oceans and especially microplastics.

Moreover on the [ecosystems](https://greenlivingguy.com/2019/05/experts-launch-project-to-assess-drought-effects-on-ecosystems-and-how-communities-can-adapt/),
and human health. Because there’s another largely hidden dimension of the plastic
crisis. It’s clearly plastic’s contribution to [global greenhouse gas emissions and climate change](https://greenlivingguy.com/2005/05/global-warming-change-a-small-few-non-believers-say-no/).

For this report examines each of these stages of the plastic lifecycle to identify
the major sources of greenhouse gas emissions, sources of uncounted emissions, and
uncertainties that likely lead to underestimation of plastic’s climate impacts.

The report comparing [greenhouse gas emissions](https://greenlivingguy.com/2020/03/fast-facts-about-greenhouse-gas-emissions/)
estimates against global carbon budgets and emissions commitments. It also considers
how current trends and projections will impact our ability to reach agreed emissions
targets. Finally it compiles data. For example, downstream emissions and future
growth rates. Those that have not previously been accounted for in widely used climate
models. Because this accounting paints a grim picture. I mean [plastic](https://greenlivingguy.com/2020/06/plastic-a-toxic-love-story/)
proliferation threatens our planet and the [climate](https://greenlivingguy.com/2020/04/climate-change-the-time-for-action-is-now/)
