I mean expanding the Mustang family?! Wow. I mean making the famous [pony](https://greenlivingguy.com/2019/11/ford-converts-mustang-to-all-electric-mach-e/) into the electric age with Mustang Mach-E. For it’s definitely an all-new, [all-electric SUV](https://greenlivingguy.com/2019/03/fisker-inc-reveals-stunning-all-electric-suv-design-priced-below-40000/). Now born of the same all-American ideals that inspired the best-selling sports coupe in the world. So I test drove it and it’s everything you need and a hand basket. For real. I had the ease and comfort and moreover the smiles from everyone. Mustang has gone all electric. I mean everyone enjoyed the car. Some purists didn’t understand the design choice but this is a new era folks. It’s Mustang America gone electric. Can you feel that?!!! One thing please note is the car I tested was done on efficiency. Not performance and then eco. So take that into consideration. ## Part One of MY TEST with the Mustang Mach E When I test drove we did a viewing on a silver one first. ### Car And Driver Recent Love for the car As [Car and Driver](https://www.caranddriver.com/ford/mustang-mach-e) reported: The past and the future collide on the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E, which is inspired by the automaker’s unmistakable pony [car and powered exclusively by electricity](https://greenlivingguy.com/2023/01/audi-activesphere-concept/). Although it shares a name and familiar styling cues with the **[Mustang](https://www.caranddriver.com/ford/mustang)**, the all-electric crossover otherwise is completely unrelated. With two available battery sizes and either rear- or all-wheel drive, **[Ford](https://www.caranddriver.com/ford)** says the Mach-E can provide up to 305 miles of driving range. One the version I tested, it was built for efficiency so yes. This range is about right. I got about 310-315 but who is counting LOL. #### Car and Driver Rated it Best EV 2021 **[Editors’ Choice award](https://www.caranddriver.com/shopping-advice/a35536605/2021-editors-choice/)**. Its five-passenger cabin is fitted with contemporary features and cutting-edge infotainment options as well as some unique cargo and storage solutions. The GT is targeting 0-60 mph in under 4 seconds^(2), making it faster off the line than a Porsche Macan Turbo^(3). Now I want to test that one!!! Because the efficiency of this 0-60 was slow. Yet the 60-90 is what you need to get worried about. Yet the GT Performance Edition, meanwhile. I can’t wait for that puppy! That is targeting a comparable 0-60 mph in the mid-3-second range to a Porsche 911 GTS!! He he. I will let you know!! Both GT configurations are targeting an estimated 342 kW (459 horsepower) and 830 Nm (612 lb.-ft.) of torque.2 So there is a limited First Edition will be available in extended-range all-wheel drive.  One with red painted brake calipers, metallic pedal covers, contrasting seat stitching and a scuff plate marked First Edition. For THAT is the one I test drove!! #### For that’s the version I drove! In addition to blistering acceleration, Mustang Mach-E will be available with Brembo’s all-new performance Flexira aluminum calipers, which maintain the functionality of a fixed caliper while being designed with the dimensions of a floating caliper. ##### Performance gives new meaning to the word ‘electrifying’ Mustang #### Mach-E delivers a unique drive ##### For they are: Whisper, Engage and Unbridled. I mean each offering finely tuned driving dynamics packaged with a distinct sensory experience. Features include custom-designed vehicle responsiveness. ##### For that’s such as: 1. sportier steering controls 2. ambient lighting 3. sounds tuned for an authentic all-electric experience 4. and dynamic cluster animations that are tied to driving behavior. When the vehicle launches, a new Mach-E 4 all-wheel drive system will be available that can apply torque independently to the front and rear axles. All to deliver impressive acceleration and improved handling over the rear-wheel drive model. #### Impressions I mean Ford tuned this system to provide excellent traction on the road. So in the rain going 55-62 was not issue. Nothing. I mean nothing of any slippage. Another kick ass thing! This Mach-E is the first production vehicle to be tuned by the Ford Performance team. So it’s utilizing Ford’s racing simulator in North Carolina. #### Seamless technology that easily adapts to your lifestyle Making its debut in the Mach-E is the [next-generation SYNC^(®)](https://media.ford.com/content/fordmedia/fna/us/en/news/2019/10/30/ford-sync-4-brings-new-levels-of-connectivity.html) communications and entertainment system, a [sleek and modern interface](https://youtu.be/Rt_Mzo6F1Zw) that uses machine learning to quickly learn drivers’ preferences, and gets even better over time thanks to advanced over-the-air updates. So the SYNC’s 15.5-inch screen and simple interface ditches complicated menus. Thereby making it easier to access features. All with touch, swipe and pinch controls. So every smartphone owner should be comfortable using. I mean this is serious next-generation SYNC. For it evolves to serve customers better over time.  Yes, for I mean Ford has outfitted the Mustang Mach-E with the ability to continuously improve through the delivery of secure over-the-air updates. All that are capable of enhancing vehicle performance, offering maintenance updates and even adding entirely new features. #### A new way to look at – and to experience – Mustang Look. When anyone asked me what I thought about the body of the [Ford mustang Mach E](https://greenlivingguy.com/2021/07/growing-sustainably-6-significant-benefits-of-a-robust-climate-action-platform/), I always said Ford Motor company used to own Jaguar. My guess is they had this body frame in the files for some time. Then when they realized it was time to turn up that all electric game on Tesla, they got a Mustang team with an old Jaguar SUV look. So then and I mean bam a Mach E baby! At that point is it all made sense. LOL go with it. Ford’s all-electric architecture that places batteries inside the underbody. Just like they usually do. Yet it also maximizes SUV space for five passengers and cargo. The [Mach-E is instantly recognizable as a Mustang](https://greenlivingguy.com/2026/04/mustang-mach-e-2026-ford-still-the-pony-to-beat/), thanks to signature elements such as its long, powerful hood, rear haunch design, aggressive headlights and trademark tri-bar taillamps. #### Clever design and engineering delivers surprising rear seat roominess and ample cargo space. Along with its all-new propulsion system, the Mach-E holds another surprise under its hood. Also a drainable front trunk storage unit. Providing 4.8 cubic feet of storage space, the front trunk is large enough to comfortably store the equivalent of a carryon luggage bag. And because it’s drainable, customers can easily pack it full of ice and keep their favorite beverages cold – perfect for that pre-game tailgate or trip to the beach. Inside the Mach-E: A floating world makes you feel light and in command To truly take advantage of the extra space provided by electrification, Ford designers worked extensively with customers to understand how they would prefer to use the interior of their vehicles. ##### Designed with SUV-size proportions to seat five adults comfortably, the Mach-E leaves plenty of space for friends, kids and cargo. In addition to the exterior front trunk, the rear trunk offers 29 cubic feet of space. With the rear seats down, the Mach-E boasts 59.6 cubic feet of space – more than enough room for luggage, camping gear or whatever else you may want to move around. ^(5) Everywhere inside, the Mach-E represents a fusion of sleek, modern design and smart functionality. Premium available Bang & Olufsen speakers are seamlessly integrated across the front, floating above the air vents like a sound bar. A floating flip- up armrest doubles as a place to store purses or bags. #### Traditional Mustang design cues like the double-cowl instrument panel round out the interior. Even the available panoramic fixed-glass roof has a secret I learned. For it’s a special glass coating helps the interior stay cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. In addition, an inner layer between the glass helps protect against UV rays. Finally, getting in and starting the vehicle is easy and effortless with Phone As A Key technology^(6), was a sinch in Mustang Mach-E. #### Using Bluetooth, the vehicle can detect customers’ smartphones as they approach, unlocking the Mach-E and allowing them to start driving without getting their phones out of their pockets or using a key fob. A backup code can be entered on the center touch screen to start and drive the vehicle in the event a phone battery dies. #### Battery technology keeps you running with hassle-free charging solutions So the Mustang Mach-E will be available in both standard-range (75.7 kWh lithium- ion battery) and extended-range (98.8 kWh battery). All which has a targeted EPA- estimated range of at least 300 miles in rear-wheel-drive configuration.^(1) From what I tested was around 300 plus miles. The batteries are secured inside a waterproof battery case surrounded by crash-absorption protection. They are liquid-cooled to optimize performance in extreme weather and to improve charging times.
