The Audi A6 Avant going electric marks an [exciting step for the auto industry](https://www.audi-mediacenter.com/en/press-releases).
Audi presents this next model as proof of its commitment to sustainability and innovation.

The all-electric A6 Avant Luxury Class promises an eco-friendly driving experience.
At the same time, it delivers the comfort and advanced technology that define the
brand.

With careful attention to design and performance, this EV sets a new benchmark.
It combines efficiency with the elegance and sporty dynamics Audi is known for.

As the market shifts toward electrification, the A6 Avant stands out as a milestone.
It reflects Audi’s[ vision for a greener future](https://www.audi-mediacenter.com/en/press-releases)
while maintaining its place in the luxury segment.

## It’s called the Avant.

The company with the four rings introduced the [Audi](https://greenlivingguy.com/2015/09/upsetting-news-vw-and-audi-rigged-diesel-cars-to-act-green/)
A6 Sportback. All with an [electric drive](https://greenlivingguy.com/2007/12/electric-drive-go-down-the-avenue/)
system at the Shanghai Auto Show in April 2021.

So the production-oriented A6 Avant e-tron concept car now illustrates the synthesis.
All of pioneering drive technology and Audi’s traditional design world: the Avant.

Like the Audi A6 e-tron concept that was exhibited in 2021. Then the A6 Avant also
has an exclusively electric drive system. All based on the forward-looking PPE platform:
developed under Audi’s leadership.

At the same time, it represents a new design concept. One with the same dimensions
as the A6 Sportback e-tron. At 4.96 meters (_16.3 ft._) long, 1.96 meters (_6.4
ft._) wide, and 1.44 meters (_4.7 ft._) high. All because its body puts it in the
luxury class.

The [Audi A6 Avant](https://greenlivingguy.com/2022/03/travel-carbon-sustainable-7-ways-decrease-footprint/)
e-tron concept showcases an innovative electric design, emphasizing luxury and performance.

Its lines are a consistent development in Audi’s contemporary formal language. Significant
elements like the closed single frame. Also the continuous strip of lights in the
rear. For they all emphasize its kinship. All with the other [electrically powered Audis in the e-tron](https://greenlivingguy.com/2010/06/audi-e-tron-at-24-hours-of-le-mans-yes-an-electric-vehicle-opens-the-24-hour-race/)
fleet.

Sporting the A6 emblem. Because the concept car underscores its place in the brand’s
[business](https://greenlivingguy.com/2021/08/the-top-benefits-of-going-green-for-your-business/)
class. This family has represented the brand in one of the world’s highest-volume
segments since 1968. I mean until 1994, as the Audi 100.

There have been Avant models in the series since 1977. It’s a revolutionary, very
emotionally designed. It’s a reinterpretation of the station wagon class.

With the Avant, whose dynamic lines combine with a high degree of variability. For
the company literally worked out a new kind of car. One that has often been copied
by the competition. Avant, a term derived from _avant garde_ and a 1995 Audi ad
slogan. It is a word that has taken off. Now beautiful station wagons are called
Avant.

The Audi A6 Avant e tron concept showcases innovative design and electric performance
against a stunning sunset backdrop

For its part, the PPE technology will ensure that what the car’s lines imply. It
is translated into a standard of dynamic driving performance. Finally and everyday
suitability befitting use for long drives.

That means that, in the future, an Audi A6 e-tron will gleam with up to 700 kilometers(
_435 miles_) of range (under the WLTP standard). That’s depending on the drive system
and model variant. And the strongest representatives of the series will [sprint](https://greenlivingguy.com/2011/06/sprint-leads-the-way-in-wireless-sustainability/)
from 0 to 100 km/h (_62 mph_). All in less than four seconds.

### The Audi A6 Avant’s back end, which is as beautiful as it is spacious.

Yet is by no means the only thing that qualifies it as the storage champ. The drive
[system and battery technology](https://greenlivingguy.com/2012/06/a123-systems-introduces-breakthrough-lithium-ion-battery-technology-that-optimizes-performance-in-extreme-temperatures/)
are amazing. With its 800 volt system. Also a charging capacity of up to 270 kW.
I mean it can take in enough [energy](https://greenlivingguy.com/2014/08/asmo-charger-revolutionizing-mobile-charging/)
in just 10 minutes at a fast-charging station. That’s to drive about 300 kilometers(
_186 miles_).

## Unmistakable e-tron: the design

The dimensions of the Audi A6 Avant e-tron [stretches](https://www.audi-mediacenter.com/en/press-releases)
to 4.96 meters (16.3 feet) in length. This size provides a spacious interior that
delivers both comfort and practicality. In addition, the vehicle measures 1.96 meters(
6.4 feet) in width, which enhances road presence and stability across different
terrains.

With a height of 1.44 meters (4.7 feet), the design achieves a sleek, aerodynamic
silhouette while staying accessible for passengers. At the same time, these dimensions
align with the current A6/A7 lineup. They reflect Audi’s consistent design philosophy,
one that emphasizes luxury and performance. As a result, drivers enjoy a premium
experience whether commuting daily or heading out on longer journeys.

### Check out the cW

Aerodynamics has always played a key role in Audi’s long history of success in the
luxury class. The cW value of the Audi 100 / C3. Also the aerodynamics world champion
of all classes in its day. It is legendary. I mean with its cW value of 0.30.

Now the electrically powered family of the [Audi A6 e-tron](https://greenlivingguy.com/2023/01/audi-activesphere-concept/)
concept is writing a new chapter in this success story. That’s proving once again
that the brand always combines form and function. All in perfect symbiosis. The
Sportback’s cW value of just 0.22 is unprecedented. Especially in the electrified
C-segment.

With its expansive roofline, the Avant’s cW value is just 0.02 units above that.
In layman’s terms, this means the car exhibits minimal aerodynamic drag – which
initially translates into lower energy consumption and therefore extended range.
At the same time, the fine-tuning in the wind tunnel has once again resulted in
an organic design with exceptional elegance and harmony down to the last detail.

#### Check out those 22’s

Large 22-inch wheels and short overhangs, the flat cabin, and a dynamic roof arch
give the Avant proportions that are distinctly reminiscent of a sports car.

The absence of hard edges results in smooth transitions between convex and concave
surfaces throughout the body, as well as in soft shadows. The Audi A6 e-tronconcept
appears monolithic, as if from a single mold – particularly when viewed from the
side.

### Wheel Arches

The gently sloping roof arch flows backward with a sleek line. Its slanted D-pillar
defines the classic Audi Avant window design. The pillar rises from the strong base
of the rear end in a streamlined way.

At the same time, the bold quattro wheel arches accentuate the car’s width. They
blend seamlessly into the side surfaces, giving the body a powerful yet organic
look.

The wheel arches are connected by the specially sculpted battery area above the
rocker panel, which is highlighted with a black inlay – a design element that is
now a hallmark of the Audi brand’s fleet of [electric vehicles](https://greenlivingguy.com/2024/09/electric-vehicle-safety-navigating-the-challenges-of-hurricane-helene/).
Also typical of Audi e-tron [models](https://greenlivingguy.com/2021/09/2022-audi-e-tron-s-and-e-tron-s-sportback-models-coming-to-us-this-fall/)
are the sleek, camera-based virtual exterior mirrors at the base of the A-pillar.

Looking at the front, it is immediately apparent that the Audi A6 e-tron concept
is an electric-powered representative of the brand with the four rings. A characteristic
feature is the large enclosed Singleframe grille, which is bordered at the bottom
by deep air intakes for cooling the drivetrain, battery, and brakes. The flat headlight
bezels extend far into the sides of the laterally sweeping front end, underscoring
the horizontally aligned architecture of the vehicle body.

## The Audi Rear End

The influence of the wind tunnel on the rear end is unmistakable. The upper rear
end is shaped to create an aerodynamically functional and circumferential breakaway
edge. The rear spoiler with colored trim visually emphasizes the elongated, horizontally
oriented silhouette of the A6 Avant e-tron concept. It also does important work
with airflow to improve aerodynamics.

And in the lower section, the rear diffuser’s two generously sized air outlets are
integrated into the bumper area. These components, which also have colored trim,
channel the air that flows under the vehicle in a manner that reduces turbulence–
a perfect combination of reduced aerodynamic drag and minimized lift.

The showcar’s sporty silhouette is emphasized by its warm shade of gray called Neptune
Valley. While the paint has a modern, understated look when it is in the shadows,
its full effect opens up in the sun, draping the showcar in [shades of softly](https://greenlivingguy.com/2019/08/hunter-douglas-solera-soft-shades/)
iridescent gold with its effect pigments.

## Illuminating from every perspective – light technology

The flat headlights and taillights are slim and flush with the overall composition
of the lines. Digital Matrix LED and [digital OLED](https://greenlivingguy.com/2019/03/test-drive-results-mini-cooper-sport-2014-car/)
technology makes it possible to achieve maximum brightness and a wide range of features
even with a minimal surface area, while at the same time offering customizable light
signatures. The team of Audi lighting designers and developers has once again done
an amazing job – this concept car packs a host of new features and personalization
options into its lighting units.

Three small, high-resolution LED projectors are built into each side of the body,
transforming the ground beneath them into a stage when the doors are opened – small,
extended, dynamic lighting effects greet the occupants with messages in their own
language.

#### For Safety too

The combination of safety features and aesthetic design is particularly important
to Audi. That’s why the small, high-resolution projectors also display warning symbols
on the ground – to warn a bike rider that the car door is about to open, for example.

Another four high-resolution LED projectors – inconspicuously integrated into the
corners of the vehicle – generate turn signal projections. The design of these projections
can be modified to address different markets and approval regions as required.

#### LED Matrix

The Digital Matrix [LED front headlights](https://greenlivingguy.com/2022/03/audi-a6-avant-e-tron-concept-storage-champ/)
achieve almost cinematic quality. If, for example, the Audi A6 Avant e-tron concept
is parked in front of a wall during a break to recharge the battery, the driver
and passengers can pass the time playing a video game projected onto it. Instead
of on a small screen in the cockpit, they’ll see their current game’s virtual landscapes
projected onto the wall in XXL format – and all this via the Digital Matrix LED
headlights.

The rear end of the concept car features a new generation of digital OLED elements
that, as a continuous strip of lights, act like a display. They can also be used
to create almost unlimited customizable variations of digital light signatures and
dynamic lighting displays that can be adapted to the customer’s personal taste.

### OLED Today

One new feature in the taillights is the three-dimensional architecture of the digital
OLED elements. All that adapted to the shape of the body. For this makes it possible
to perfectly integrate the night design into the overall look. This makes it possible
to experience the dynamic light show not only in two dimensions. I mean as was previously
the case. All but with an impressive, [3D](https://greenlivingguy.com/2017/05/green-up-your-grocery-cart/)
spatial effect.

The combination taillights of the Audi A6 Avant e-tron match the high standards
set by its headlights. Both systems fulfill the essential functions of lighting:
seeing and being seen.

In the front, the headlights deliver a clear, bright view of the road. They also
adapt intelligently to traffic, weather, and surroundings. At the same time, they
can communicate with other road users, adding an extra layer of safety.

In the rear, digital OLED combination taillights shine with ultrabright, high-contrast
precision. Their homogeneous light significantly increases visibility and safety.
Moreover, this technology sets a benchmark for the future of road safety, ensuring
drivers remain seen in every condition.

In addition, the projections around the vehicle allow its communication range to
be extended beyond the vehicle for the first time. With the help of intelligent
connectivity in the vehicle, the A6 e-tron [concept provides information to other road](https://greenlivingguy.com/2025/10/norway-ev-charging-roads-a-revolutionary-concept/)
users with visual signals.

## PPE – high body styles and low ride height

The PPE is designed exclusively for battery-electric drive systems and can therefore
take full advantage of all the benefits of this technology. The key element of the
future PPE fleet is a battery module between the axles that holds around 100 kWh
of energy in the [Avant version of the A6 e-tron](https://greenlivingguy.com/2022/08/audi-e-tron-concept-a-glimpse-into-the-future/)
concept.

Using the entire vehicle base makes it possible to achieve a relatively flat layout
for the battery. This means that it will be possible to use this single platform
both for vehicles with high body styles and vehicles with a decidedly dynamic, flat
architecture – such as the Audi A6 Avant – without any changes to the basic architecture.

The battery size and wheelbase of PPE vehicles are scalable. Thereby making them
suitable for use in different market segments. However, the proportions of a fairly
long wheelbase and very short overhangs. They are something they will all have in
common. Plus with the large wheels, results in basic proportions. As they call that
are simply perfect. And not just in terms of design.

Future PPE models give occupants more space. The long wheelbase stretches the interior
and creates extra legroom in both rows of seats. This benefit applies across all
segments.

In addition, electric vehicles offer even greater roominess. Without a transmission
tunnel—no longer needed with this technology—the cabin feels more open and comfortable.
As a result, drivers and passengers enjoy a premium sense of space on every journey.

#### Transmission Tunnel

But even without the transmission tunnel, Audi customers will not have to give up
the brand’s trademark quattro drive system. The future range of PPE [models will include versions with one electric motor](https://greenlivingguy.com/2021/10/test-drive-results-2021-tesla-model-3-dual-motor-electric-car-performance/).
I mean one each mounted to the front and rear axles. That’s using electronic coordination
to deliver all-wheel drive on demand. Then to achieve a perfect balance. All between
driving dynamics and [energy efficiency](https://greenlivingguy.com/2021/06/how-can-the-industrial-sector-reach-net-zero-emissions/).

In addition, the e-tron family will also include basic versions optimized for minimum
consumption and maximum range – in this case, propulsion will come from a single
electric motor mounted to the rear axle.

The Audi A6 Avant e-tron concept’s two electric motors are capable of delivering
350 kW of total output and 800 Newton meters of torque.

The Audi A6 e-tron concept connects its front wheels through a five-link axle. Engineers
also optimized it specifically for electric vehicles. At the rear, a multi-link
axle ensures stability and precision.

In addition, the concept rides on Audi air suspension with adaptive dampers. This
system balances comfort and performance. It adjusts in real time, giving drivers
a smooth ride and sharp handling.

## A6 Avant e-tron – the storage champ

At the core of the Audi A6 Avant e-tron concept—and all future PPE models—lies 800-
volt charging technology. Like the Audi e-tron GT quattro, it allows the battery
to charge at up to 270 kW in a very short time at fast-charging stations.

As a result, drivers gain quicker access to range and more convenience on long trips.
In addition, this breakthrough will debut in the high-volume mid-range and luxury
segments with the PPE platform for the very first time. It marks a major step in
bringing revolutionary charging performance to a wider audience.

Thus, the A6 Avant becomes a storage champion in two ways. First, it offers a spacious
rear end for everyday practicality. Second, it uses PPE technology that delivers
charging times close to a traditional fuel stop.

In just 10 minutes, the battery charges enough to drive more than 300 kilometers(
186 miles). Moreover, in under 25 minutes, the 100 kWh pack can recharge from 5
to 80 percent. This makes the A6 Avant e-tron concept as convenient as it is powerful.

### Amazing Range

Together with a range of up to 700 kilometers (_435 miles_) – depending on the selected
drive system and power output

For the models in the Audi A6 e-tron family are uncompromisingly suitable for long
trips. Furthermore, their range and charging speed keep pace with those of combustion
engines, making them perfect universal cars for everyday needs, from short [trips](https://greenlivingguy.com/2026/08/plan-greener-road-trips-without-sacrifice/)
to the store to longer road trips when going on vacation.

In terms of dynamic qualities, the Audi A6 e-tronconcept – as is typical for an
[electric car](https://greenlivingguy.com/2025/07/garage-energy-ev-charge-solutions-for-smart-homes/).
For it truly outshines its rivals with combustion engines. Thanks to its high torque
right from the first revolution. I mean even entry-level models designed for efficiency
will accelerate to 100 km/h (_62 mph_) in less than seven seconds. And in the top-
of-the-line, high-performance models. So this sprint can even be reduced to well
under four seconds.

## PPE – versatile, variable, electric

2018 saw the debut of the Audi’s first fully [electric production vehicle](https://greenlivingguy.com/2026/07/best-electric-vehicles-2026-comparison-guide/).
For that’s the Audi e-tron. Since then the brand has systematically and rapidly
pushed ahead. All with the widespread introduction of [electric mobility across its entire product](https://greenlivingguy.com/2007/03/gm-targets-2010-production-for-electric-car/)
range.

Following the [Audi e-tron SUV and e-tron Sportback](https://greenlivingguy.com/2022/11/audi-on-demand-now-offers-electric-audi-e-tron-sportback-and-long-term-rental/).
The highly dynamic e-tron GT quattro is built on a new technology platform. Audi
developed it jointly with Porsche AG, and it made its debut in February 2021.

Just two months later, Audi premiered the Q4 e-tron and the Q4 Sportback e-tron.
These are unique SUVs in the compact segment. At the same time, both models share
the Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform, proving how innovation and scalability can
work together across different classes.

#### The Audi A6 e-tron Sportback and Avant concept cars are now the first members of a family of vehicles

Audi begins its rollout in the C-segment. Later, it expands into the B- and D-segments.
All of these models share an innovative foundation—the Premium Platform Electric(
PPE).

This modular system is being developed under Audi’s leadership, together with Porsche
AG. In addition, the first Audi production vehicles on PPE will arrive in stages,
starting in 2023. This marks the beginning of a scalable EV strategy designed to
cover multiple segments while maintaining premium performance.

The PPE is the first platform designed to accommodate an unprecedented range of
high-volume automobiles. That’s including SUVs and CUVs with high ground clearance.
As well as cars with low ride height that are part of Audi’s core product range.
That’s such as the Audi A6 series.

But there are also plans to expand the PPE range into the B-segment. All which has
been the highest-volume market segment for Audi for decades. And even when it comes
to the top-of-the-line D-segment. In addition, the PPE is an excellent technological
platform to build on.

With the PPE, [electric vehicles](https://greenlivingguy.com/2025/08/bentley-exp-15-ev-concept-debuts-at-monterey-car-week/)
will now also be attractive to customers who prefer automobile concepts beyond the
SUV segment. For that’s like an Avant for example. All which is characteristic of
the brand.

As a result, Audi expands its range of electric vehicles. It does so through the
high-volume B- and C-segments. In addition, economies of scale bring luxury-class
technology to more models.

This approach also allows multiple versions to enter the lineup. At the same time,
it creates a wide-ranging portfolio that few rivals can match. Finally, Audi positions
itself with an offering that is unrivaled in the premium market.
