_**UPDATE**: Sysco, one of the largest food deliverers in the world, placed an order
for 50 [Tesla](https://www.autoblog.com/tesla/) Semi [trucks](https://www.autoblog.com/truck/).
The company operates a fleet of more than 7,000 trucks. “This reinforces Sysco’s
commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility by reducing the environmental impact
of our operations. In addition to the positive environmental impacts, we will also
benefit from reduced fuel and maintenance costs. Moreover, drive associate enthusiasm
with the introduction of new and unique technology,” said Tom Bené, Sysco’s president
and chief operating officer, in a press release._

Together, the two orders equal around $15 million.

For a beer company that still employs 19th-century teams of draft horses driven
by coachmen in striped pants, Anheuser-Busch is pretty keen on the latest technology,
announcing it has ordered 40 [Tesla](https://greenlivingguy.com/2013/01/tesla-electricvehicle-models-stores-in-ny-and/)
electric semis as part of its push to gain efficiencies in its supply chain and
reduce its [carbon footprint](https://www.autoblog.com/tag/carbon+footprint/) 30
percent by 2025.

The order is one of the largest for [Tesla’s electric big rig since it was revealed last month](https://www.autoblog.com/2017/11/17/tesla-electric-semi-truck-elon-musk/),
out of about a dozen known reservations from companies such as Walmart and J.B.
Hunt. The trucks will also be configured for autonomous driving or platooning. That’s
daisy-chaining a series of [trucks](https://greenlivingguy.com/2022/10/pepsico/)
led by one human driver.

## Reducing the Environmental Impact With Tesla Trucks

[Anheuser-Busch](https://greenlivingguy.com/2020/05/8-ways-students-can-save-the-environment/)
hauls a lot of Bud around the country. The company says reducing its greenhouse
gases by 30 percent is huge. It would be the equivalent of taking 500,000 cars off
the road every year. Similarly, Sysco Semi trucks aim to lower emissions significantly,
contributing to a cleaner environment.

At Anheuser-Busch, we are constantly seeking new ways to make our supply chain more
sustainable, efficient, and innovative,” said James Sembrot, AB’s [top logistics guy](https://greenlivingguy.com/2015/03/pr-newswire-awarded-green-living-guy-one-of-top-news-sites/).“
This investment in Tesla semi-trucks helps us achieve these goals while improving
road safety and lowering our environmental impact.”

Anheuser-Busch says it’s also working with Nikola, which is developing a hydrogen-
electric long-haul truck, with Otto and [Uber](https://www.autoblog.com/tag/uber/)
Freight on autonomous driving, and with the Convoy trucking company. In fact, an
Otto autonomous truck hauled a load of [Budweiser](https://greenlivingguy.com/2019/01/budweiser-launching-renewable-energy-for-your-home-program-with-drift-kickoff-superbowl/)—
51,744 cans of it. AB says helpfully (or 4,312 if your preferred unit of measurement
is a 12-pack). That’s from its Fort Collins, Colo., brewery to Colorado Springs
back in 2016.

As for the Teslas, “We can’t wait to get these trucks on the road. Moreover, keep
leading our industry forward to a greener, smarter future in partnership with some
of the world’s most innovative companies,” said Mr. Sembrot. The [transportation industry](https://greenlivingguy.com/2020/02/the-transportation-industry-seeks-clean-energy-innovations/)
is evolving fast, and we’re really excited to play a leadership role in driving
this evolution by integrating these new technologies across our network.
