Feb 13, 2023 – ATLANTA

So let’s go charge 4MATIC! Starting from $122,5501 and offering a WLTP range of more than 100 km (~62 miles). That’s a lot! So S 580e charge 4MATIC is also now available to order. For it will arrive in U.S. dealerships in the first half of 2023.

PHEV

The Mercedes-Benz S 580e charge 4MATIC charge (I love calling it that) represents the fourth generation of the sophisticated hybrid drive system. So now celebrating its premiere in the S-Class. In addition, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class plug-in hybrid pricing will start from $122,5501.

The basis for the hybrid drive system is provided by the 3.0L I-6 six-cylinder engine with 367 hp from the current generation of Mercedes-Benz engines.

Charge 4Matic 21.5kWh battery

This is also paired with a 21.5kWh battery and a permanently excited synchronous electric motor with internal rotor. One which has an output of 148 hp to create a combined total output of 510 hp. Thanks to the large battery and powerful electric motor.  So the S 580e 4MATIC can in many cases operate without using its combustion engine.

Charge 62 Miles all Electric

With an all-electric range of 100 kilometers (~62 miles) according to WLTP. So the range has more than doubled compared with the previous model. The peak torque of the electric motor, at 369 lb-ft, is available right from the start. For that’s resulting in high agility, along with dynamic driving performance. The top speed in the ELECTRIC drive program is 130 mph. That’s after which the speed is softly limited.

In addition, the positioning of the battery in the vehicle brings advantages on a day-to-day basis compared with the previous model: the luggage compartment offers a through-loading facility.

4Matic Charger

A 9.6 kW charger is on board as standard for at home and public charging. All the while an optional 60 kW DC charger is available for fast charging. With the 60 kW DC charger, the battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in 20 minutes.

As a luxury flagship, the Mercedes-Benz S 580e 4MATIC offers the highest level of standard equipment and customization options customers enjoy in every S-Class Sedan, seamlessly combining luxurious form and intelligent function thoughtfully executed down to the smallest detail to deliver unparalleled levels of comfort, refinement and safety that set the benchmark in the industry.

E-Active 4Matic Body

The optional E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL active suspension is now also available. Especially when combined with the standard AIRMATIC air suspension it offers even more driving comfort and agility. Since the system regulates the spring and damper forces on each wheel individually, it not only counteracts roll, but also pitching and lifting movements. Innovative features include the ability to raise the body in the event of a side crash.

E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL, in conjunction with ROAD SURFACE SCAN and the CURVE cornering function, delivers a high level of comfort. As E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL operates on 48-volts, this optional extra is available for those models equipped with an on-board electrical system of this type and 4MATIC.

Luxurious rear-seat comfort

Luxurious rear-seat comfort options already familiar from the recently launched Mercedes-Maybach S- Class can also be found in the S 580e 4MATIC including:

  1. The adaptive rear compartment lighting allows the brightness and color temperature of the interior lighting to be adjusted in several stages. LED spotlights are adjustable in position and size, allowing use for reading or as lounge lighting
  2. The calf massage function in the rear stimulates the circulation and helps to prevent fatigue.

The Mercedes-Benz S 580e 4MATIC is now available to order and will arrive in U.S. dealerships in the first half of 2023.
