## Hitting the Road and Trail in the 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 XRT: The Green Living Guy’s Take

So let’s talk the new Hyundai IONIQ 5 XRT. I’ve always maintained that electric
vehicles can do everything their gas-powered counterparts can – and usually better.
Thus, when Hyundai introduced the adventure-focused XRT trim to their already impressive
IONIQ 5, I was in. I mean eager to put it through its paces. Also, I spent a week
with this rugged EV. I was testing it on city streets, highways, and even some light
off-road trails. Essentially to see if it truly delivers on its adventurous promises.

### First Impressions: Rugged Meets Retro-Future in the Hyundai IONIQ 5 XRT

The moment I laid eyes on the IONIQ 5 XRT, I noticed how Hyundai successfully ruggedized
the vehicle’s distinctive design. Moreover, the matte black cladding, raised ride
height, and all-terrain tires. For they transform the IONIQ 5’s retro-futuristic
look into something ready for adventure. The roof rack and integrated front light
bar further emphasize its outdoor-ready credentials without sacrificing the model’s
iconic pixel-inspired aesthetics.

### Electric Performance That Excites

Under the skin, the XRT packs the IONIQ 5’s most powerful dual-motor setup. That’s
delivering approximately 320 horsepower and 446 lb-ft of instant torque to all four
wheels. Consequently, this adventure-focused EV accelerates with authority, reaching
60 mph in just 4.5 seconds – quicker than many performance SUVs.

I pushed the [XRT through various driving](https://greenlivingguy.com/2026/07/hyundai-palisade-xrt-pro-2026-test-drive-results/)
conditions. So undoubtedly, the electric powertrain provides immediate response
that proves particularly valuable during off-road maneuvers. Additionally, the precise
control of torque delivery to each axle enhances traction on loose surfaces. Therefore,
it’s giving better stability than many conventional AWD systems.

### Range and Charging: Adventure-Ready Ability

During my week of mixed-terrain driving, the IONIQ 5 XRT consistently delivered
less range. I mean around 250 miles of real-world range on a full charge. Now that’s
slightly less than the standard AWD model due to the all-terrain tires and more
equipment. Yet, this [car](https://greenlivingguy.com/2022/10/test-drive-results-genesis-gv60-electric-car/)
wants to and is programmed to drive fast. Because, the 800-volt architecture continues
to impress with its ultra-fast charging capabilities.

I stopped at a 350kW DC fast charger during my journey. So as a result, the battery
charged from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes. Furthermore, the vehicle’s robust battery
thermal management [system maintained these charging](https://greenlivingguy.com/2015/01/bmw-i-charging-system-unveiled-at-ces-2015/)
speeds. That’s even after some spirited off-road driving had warmed the powertrain.

### Off-Road Chops: Electric Exploration

The XRT’s enhanced suspension provides approximately 2 inches of more ground clearance
over the standard IONIQ 5. Therefore, I felt confident taking it down rutted forest
roads and across moderately challenging terrain. The special off-road drive modes–
including Snow, Mud, and Sand settings. For they adjust the power delivery and traction
control intervention to suit different surfaces.

During an extensive off-road session, I appreciated the instant [torque and precise control of the electric](https://greenlivingguy.com/2009/09/electric-supercharger-boosts-torque-50-and-reduces-co2-by-20/)
motors. It enabled smooth crawling over obstacles. In addition, the regenerative
braking system offers excellent speed control on descents. That’s reducing the need
for physical braking that would cause skidding on loose surfaces.

### Interior: Sustainable Adventure

Inside, the XRT maintains the IONIQ 5’s spacious, lounge-like cabin while adding
adventure-ready features. For instance, the water-resistant upholstery uses recycled
materials that align perfectly with the vehicle’s eco-conscious ethos. The flat
floor and flexible seating arrangements. Likewise, it creates a versatile space.
One that can also accommodate camping gear or even serve as a sleeping area for
car camping adventures.

Hyundai has also incorporated several overlanding-focused features into the interface.
Then drivers can access topographic maps, range predictions based on terrain, and
nearby charging station information through the 12.3-inch touchscreen, making off-
grid adventures more accessible and less anxiety-inducing.

### Practical Innovation

The XRT retains the IONIQ 5’s innovative Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, which
transforms the [car into a powerful](https://greenlivingguy.com/2025/08/v2g-ev-home-how-your-car-powers-your-house/)
mobile generator. As a result, I could power devices from both the exterior outlet
and the interior power points. That’s perfect for running campsite equipment or
charging adventure gear.

The heat pump system comes standard on the XRT [trim](https://greenlivingguy.com/2023/04/test-drive-results-hyundai-ioniq-5-2023-features/),
therefore maintaining efficient range even in cold weather conditions. Now that’s
typically challenge for EVs. In addition, the dual-motor configuration provides
confident traction in slippery conditions, making this a genuine four-season adventure
vehicle.

### The Green Living Guy’s Verdict of the Hyundai IONIQ 5 XRT

After thorough evaluation, I’m convinced that the [2025 Hyundai IONIQ](https://greenlivingguy.com/2025/08/hyundai-ioniq-5-awd-limited-test-drive-results/)
5 XRT is no joke. For it is exactly what the [future of adventure vehicles](https://greenlivingguy.com/2023/08/lightning-emotors-commercial-vehicles-with-ev-technology/)
should be. It demonstrates that electric [vehicles can deliver genuine off-road](https://greenlivingguy.com/2023/05/fisker-offroad-segment-ocean-force-e-deliveries-expected/)
capability. All the while maintaining the efficiency, performance, and technological
advantages inherent to EVs.

The starting price of approximately $54,000 positions it competitively against both
premium [electric crossovers and conventional off-road SUVs](https://greenlivingguy.com/2024/11/hyundai-ioniq-9-game-changing-the-electric-suv-market/).
Moreover, the federal tax incentives and lower operating costs enhance its value
proposition considerably.

In conclusion, the IONIQ 5 XRT shatters the myth that EVs are only suited for urban
environments. Instead, it proves that electric propulsion can [enhance the adventure experience](https://greenlivingguy.com/2010/05/google-for-chevy-volt-enhancing-your-experience/).
