New Mexico and Minnesota took the first steps to join California and 13 other states. All in adopting low and zero-emission vehicle standards. So by joining these stricter standards, New Mexico and Minnesota joins over one-third of the vehicle market. A market which leads to more fuel efficient vehicles. Therefore and lower gas expenditures for consumers.
So places like California and Oregon in the West and several Eastern states. Some are including New York, New Jersey and Maryland. These are the regions with the largest EV markets and infrastructure.
Consequently, this comes on the heel of the Trump Administration revoking the right of states to adopt a more stringent emissions standard guaranteed under the Clean Air Act since 1975. The clean car states have provided vital leadership in advancing the higher standards. Leadership that have consistently been supported by a majority of the public.
One of the great benefits of American federalism is that individual states discovering better ways of accomplishing shared goals. Thereby New Mexico and Minnesota deciding that it is in the best interest of their citizens to join together with the other clean car states. Their ability to do so shouldn’t be blocked by Trump’s misguided rollback. Rollback consequently of common sense fuel economy standards.
Therefore attempts to take away state authority is in part unconstitutional. So President Trump is increasing consumers’ costs at the pump. At the dealership it’s slightly more. However every time you fuel up it costs LESS.
Therefore we must create fuel efficient cars. Making U.S. vehicles less fuel efficient equals less competitive. Thereby throwing America in reverse. All when it comes to a cleaner environment.
