AOL Loving Do It Yourself Home Energy Audits from Green Guru Guides

Source: AOL Real Estate By Kaomi Goetz
Energy efficiency is most certainly a buzz phrase these days. And homeowners and renters alike are starting to think about (and practice) ways to conserve, as much for the environment as for relief to their own pocketbooks.
The U.S. Department of Energy has a guide to explain simple energy savers around the home. There is also federal assistance for low-income families to help make their homes more energy efficient. And now there’s David Findley’s new book, “Do-It-Yourself Home Energy Audits: 140 Simple Solutions to Lower Energy Costs, Increase Your Home’s Efficiency, and Save the Environment (McGraw-Hill).” This edition is part of the Green Guru Guides, a group of how-to books (published on acid-free, recycled post-consumer fiber) on living a more environmentally-sensitive life.

NRDC: Congress Going backward on Lightbulbs by Noah Horowitz

The Federal Government is at it again with reversing positive green lighting moves. Ironically, the Republicans are leading the charge and with President George W Bush they instated these initiatives. Seems backwards so I’ll let Noah take it from here!!

NRC Nuclear Waste Crisis: Key Challenges Ahead

NRC’s Assumptions About the Impacts of Waste Disposal are Obsolete – An Environmental Impact Statement is Needed to Comply With Federal Law, Groups Say.
Less than a week after three states went to court to dispute the safety issues of storing nuclear waste on site at reactor sites, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) faces two major new legal challenges to the agency’s 2010 findings that used nuclear reactor fuel and high-level radioactive waste (HLW) can be disposed of safely on a long-term basis.
In one filing by the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and the other joint filing the Blue Ridge Environmental Defense League (BREDL), Riverkeeper, and Southern Alliance for Clean Energy (SACE), the new petitioners are asking the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit to overturn two NRC rules that conclude that storage and disposal of spent (or used) nuclear reactor fuel and HLW generated by spent fuel reprocessing pose no significant safety or environmental concerns.
