Green Mountain Energy Company Launches Sun Club(sm) in New York for a Brighter Tomorrow

New York City and Westchester County residents can now make an even greater impact on the environment by supporting the local development of solar energy for area nonprofit organizations. Green Mountain Energy Company, the nation’s leading competitive retail provider of cleaner energy and carbon offset solutions, today will launch the New York chapter of the Green Mountain EnergySM Sun ClubSM – a program where for only $5 a month, Green Mountain’s New York customers can help donate solar energy technology to worthy local nonprofits.
This program is available to residential electricity customers in the Con Edison service territory throughout New York City and Westchester County. In addition to helping worthy organizations reduce their electricity costs and carbon footprints, each solar donation will include an educational component to help New Yorkers learn more about the importance of this renewable and pollution-free resource. According to the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, each kilowatt of new solar photovoltaic installed avoids 1,254 pounds of carbon dioxide (CO2) pollution a year. That’s as much CO2 pollution avoided as planting 72 trees, or not taking 471 taxi rides in the city.

Harm Seen to Environment and Small Businesses Through Increased Risk of Oil Spills, Significant Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Two leading sustainable business organizations representing 5,000 small businesses today sent a letter calling on President Obama to reject the controversial Keystone XL pipeline and, instead, invest in clean energy technologies.
The pipeline would deliver oil from the tar sands in Canada to the Gulf of Mexico across the United States.
In their letter, Green America’s Green Business Network and The Green Chamber of Commerce said the pipeline would further United States addiction to oil and risk disastrous new oil spills in rivers and the Ogallala aquifer. Global warming and oil spills have been seen to have an extremely detrimental effect on the economy, which affects the well-being of their businesses.

Rolls Royce Goes To Build Their Own Electric Vehicle

Early feedback on the new Rolls-Royce electric concept car shows that drivers like the power and quiet performance but consider driving range to be an issue.
Known as the 102EX Phantom Experimental Electric, the new prototype incorporates a massive high-energy battery and offers a range of more than 120 miles. But it still may not be enough for the ultra-luxury segment addressed by the company.

Department of Energy that leverages the company’s extensive experience in electric propulsion technology to explore the development of non-rare-earth magnet motor technology. Today, the same process is going on with the military and renewable energy. Not only is this “plus” for the American economy significant, but it also keeps American serving in combat safer, since the transport lines required for old/conventional energy are a prime target for enemy attacks and a major source of U.S. troop deaths.
In 2007, there was one casualty per every 24 fuel convoys in Afghanistan and one casualty for every 39 fuel convoys in Iraq.
The new report shows how the Department of Defense (DoD) has served as an incubator for some of our most important technologies and is demonstrating that a concerted national effort can lead to significant breakthroughs in clean energy and even greater fuel economy for transportation, as opposed to investing in cost-ineffective technology (e.g., nuclear) or illusory technology (e.g., “clean coal”).
