GUILFORD, November 5, 2012 — Four years ago, global climate change was a major issue in the presidential election—one that seemingly sparked more agreement than debate. John McCain insisted that “greenhouse gas emissions, by retaining heat within the atmosphere, threaten disastrous changes in the climate.” Barack Obama agreed. “Few challenges facing America—and the world–are more urgent than combating climate change,” he said, noting that the U.S.needed to lead the world in “reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 80 percent below 1990 levels by 2050.”
The recent presidential debates, however, lacked any discussion whatsoever about global climate change, prompting many of who are concerned about environmental issues to ask: “What happened to global climate change?”

Capstone Microturbines Power Through Hurricane Sandy

CHATSWORTH, Calif., Nov. 2, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Capstone Turbine Corporation (www.capstoneturbine.com) (Nasdaq:CPST), the world’s leading clean technology manufacturer of microturbine energy systems, announced today that its microturbine systems continued to operate during and after Hurricane Sandy slammed into the eastern seaboard this week.
News agencies reported on Tuesday morning that a peak total of over eight million electrical utility customers were in the dark. The Northeast was hardest hit, but significant outages occurred in northern Ohio, and sporadic outages occurred as far away as northwest Indiana and northern Georgia. In some regions, power failures were nearly total. Governor Andrew Cuomo said that 90% of Long Island families were without power Tuesday. One of New Jersey’s utilities reported that 86% of its 1.1 million customers were without power Tuesday morning, and that figure was still 86% early Wednesday.

USA Solar Energy Jobs Increase. National Solar Jobs Census Says Growth by More Than 13 Percent

The Solar Foundation’s Latest Annual Jobs Census Shows Consistent Industry Growth, Notes SEIA
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Solar Energy Industries Association® (SEIA®) today highlighted initial findings from The Solar Foundation’s (TSF) third annual National Solar Jobs Census showing that solar energy jobs have experienced strong growth in the U.S. over the past year, despite global economic challenges. The full National Solar Jobs Census 2012, with analysis of employment trends across the entire solar industry is scheduled for release on Nov. 14, 2012 by TSF, a nonprofit research institution located in Washington, D.C.
Initial results from the 2012 census found that the solar industry now employs 119,016 Americans across all 50 states, having grown 13.2 percent over last year during difficult economic times across the nation. In 2011, the solar energy industry employed 105,145 workers, while 93,502 were employed by solar companies in 2010.

WWF wants to see a sustainably managed and successfully controlled Atlantic and Mediterranean bluefin tuna fishery – for the recovery of an amazing fish, a healthy marine ecosystem, and a thriving fishery existing for the next millennium and beyond as it has done for thousands of years. In the long term, this means moderate levels of catch, trade and consumption – with the right number of boats on the water to avoid overfishing, and fishers and governments who respect the science and the rules – thus allowing enough fish to remain in the ocean and ensure healthy reproduction of the species season after season.
