Fast charging technology both a range enabler for drivers, and a sales enabler for automakers
Kia Motors America has selected ABB to provide DC fast chargers to its dealer network to support the launch of the Soul EV model, hitting roads later this year. The chargers will be Terra 53 50kW models that accommodate Kia’s CHAdeMO fast charging inlet, capable of charging the new vehicle in 15-30 minutes.

The latest all-electric model to arrive in North America, Kia’s Soul EV is built with a 27kWh battery, yielding a range of approximately 80-100 miles on a full charge. Kia dealers with ABB’s charging stations will offer charging at no cost to Soul EV owners, with the first wave of stations populating dealer locations along the west coast.
ABB’s Fast-Charging Revolution Powers Kia’s Electric Future

ABB’s partnership with Kia marks a significant milestone in electric vehicle infrastructure. By supplying fast-charging stations for the new Soul EV, ABB accelerates the adoption of electric mobility. Consequently, Kia dealerships across the globe can now offer rapid charging solutions to their customers.
This collaboration addresses a crucial barrier to EV adoption: charging speed. ABB’s DC fast chargers can replenish up to 80% of the Soul EV’s battery in just 30 minutes. As a result, range anxiety diminishes, making electric vehicles more practical for everyday use.

Moreover, this partnership extends beyond just hardware. ABB’s cloud-based connected services ensure that the charging stations remain reliable and efficient. Therefore, Kia can provide a seamless charging experience to Soul EV owners.
Wrapping Up
Finally, the ABB-Kia alliance demonstrates the automotive industry’s commitment to sustainable transportation. As more manufacturers embrace electric vehicles, partnerships like this will play a pivotal role in building the necessary infrastructure. Consequently, we’re witnessing the early stages of a global shift towards cleaner, more efficient mobility.
