Green-e Goes Global: Launching International Renewable Energy Standard
A New Era for Renewable Energy Certification
Green-e, the leading independent certification program for renewable energy in North America, takes a bold step forward. The organization announces plans to launch an international standard for renewable energy. This move promises to reshape the global landscape of clean energy certification.
Breaking Boundaries: The International Renewable Energy Standard
Green-e’s new standard will extend beyond North American borders. It aims to provide a unified framework for renewable energy certification worldwide. Consequently, this initiative will help businesses and consumers make informed choices about their energy sources on a global scale.
Key Features of the Green-e Standard:
- Rigorous environmental and consumer protection criteria
- Adaptability to diverse international markets
- Transparency in renewable energy claims
The Impact on Global Markets
Green-e’s international standard arrives at a crucial time. The global renewable energy market continues to grow rapidly. Therefore, this certification will provide much-needed clarity and credibility in an increasingly complex landscape.
Benefits for Businesses and Consumers:
- Enhanced trust in renewable energy claims
- Simplified process for multinational corporations
- Increased transparency in the global energy market
What the Green Living Guy Thinks
As an advocate for sustainable living, I’m thrilled by the global expansion. This international standard will undoubtedly accelerate the adoption of renewable energy worldwide. It empowers consumers and businesses to make informed choices about their energy sources. Moreover, it sets a new benchmark for accountability in the renewable energy sector.
The Road Ahead: Challenges and Opportunities
Green-e’s international standard faces both challenges and opportunities:
Challenges:
- Adapting to diverse regulatory environments
- Ensuring consistent implementation across countries
- Building global recognition and acceptance
Opportunities:
- Driving international cooperation in renewable energy
- Facilitating cross-border renewable energy transactions
- Accelerating the global transition to clean energy
A Global Movement for Clean Energy
This initiative aligns with broader global efforts to combat climate change. The Paris Agreement, signed in December 2015, set ambitious targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Green-e’s international standard will play a crucial role in helping countries and companies meet these targets.

Drawing on 20 years of success operating the Green-e Energy program for North America, CRS will follow the Green-e program’s established transparent, open-stakeholder processes in developing this standard. CRS will seek feedback on the development of the standard, and the initial 60-day open comment period will commence in the second quarter of the year. Information about the draft Green-e Energy International Standard and development process is available on the Green-e website at www.green-e.org/international.
