Find the perfect site
First of all, try to find a location that has at least six to eight hours of sunlight per day. This is especially important if you grow a lot of fruiting plants, such as tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, or melons. These will always need a lot of sun to grow well. But, if your lot is shadier, some other plants will still grow very well, like lettuce, kale, and lots of herbs. They need around three hours of sunlight or more, to successfully grow.
When you choose your garden plant organic location, be sure to stay away from large trees. Especially ones which have big roots. That can damage your garden by stealing water and nutrients from your plants.
Of course, it would be good if your water source is close since your garden planted is organic. That’s so it needs to be watered very frequently.
Garden plant organic soil is important
When starting your organic, eco-friendly garden, it would be best if you also use healthy, organic soil. This soil has some of the most important things that provide organic matter, which are manure, peat moss, and compost. This contains decayed microorganisms of previous plants; therefore, the mentioned microorganisms will supply your plants with a lot of needed nutrients.
You can even make your own compost pile by putting the organic matter in a container where it will decompose. Of course, you can also buy it in bulk for a large garden or buy it in bags at any garden center or home improvement store.
Protect your garden from critters and pests
When you establish your garden and start growing your chosen plants, you need to think about “outsiders” that could damage, destroy, or just eat them all.
First of all, there are a lot of smaller and bigger animals that absolutely love eating plants, especially some fine, organic ones. Therefore, you need to protect your garden with strong chain wire fencing that will keep your pets or wild animals out and your precious organic fruit or vegetables safe and sound. It’s one thing if you give your rabbit a few carrots, but letting him pillage the whole lot is a whole other ball game.
When you’ve made sure bigger animals are out of it, the garden still needs to be protected from germs and weeds. You can definitely reduce the weeds by spreading a layer of mulch onto your soil. This makes a firm barrier that stops weeds from getting sunlight and germs from developing. This will also prevent fungal spores from appearing on the leaves.
Be careful when you buy seedlings
When you look to buy seedlings, be sure to choose plants that have a healthy color, with no yellow leaves. Also, always avoid droopy leaves. If you are buying transplants, then gently tap the whole plant out of its pot, to see if the roots are white and well-developed. Moreover, if you can’t avoid plants with already developed buds, pinch them off before you plant, to make sure the energy of the plant is focused on developing new roots.
