Tamara Henry: The Crown with a Conscience
Tamara Henry, Miss Arkansas USA 1997, has spent over a decade proving that pageant queens can walk the green talk. Since 2001, she has lived completely car-free in Los Angeles—a city infamous for gridlock—and spent years educating the public through Metro Motion, a local TV show for the LA County Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
What sparked your passion for green living?
I was born one-quarter Cherokee and raised at the end of a gravel road in the Arkansas woods. The Natural State still has clean air and drinkable tap water. First, I lived and boated on the Arkansas River. Now, I live near the ocean in Venice Beach. Water has always drawn me in. It heals and inspires me.
Why combine media with environmental advocacy?
Mother Earth is asking us to step up. I cover green events because it’s urgent—we have to change how we live and help others do the same.
How did you break into broadcasting?
Originally, I studied pre-med in college because I cared about wellness. While competing in the Miss Arkansas Pageant system, I created a program called Preventive Health through Whole Person Wellness. That initiative earned awards and scholarships. Then, I earned my degree in Broadcast Journalism and became a WB evening news anchor in Little Rock—all while still wearing the crown.
Where is the green movement heading?
Mother Earth is guiding this shift. Those of us tuned in can feel the call. Green, after all, is the color of the heart chakra. It’s about loving the planet and each other.
What motivates you to keep building GreenT with Tamara?
My mission has always been to merge spirituality with entertainment. I co-founded GreenTwithTamara.TV with Emmy-winning Kevin Carr of Access Hollywood. Every day, the Universe supports this journey, and I remain deeply grateful.
What’s your vision for the next 1–5 years?
I see GreenT with Tamara evolving into a full-scale talk show. The goal is to continue blending uplifting stories with environmental change. There are so many powerful voices to feature—including you, The Green Living Guy!
What’s your health secret?
Rollerblading! I placed sixth in swimsuit at Miss USA, but it’s really 90% about food choices. My New Year’s resolution is to drop 10 pounds before the Night of 100 Stars—just 60 days away!
One last question—for the guys u single?
I haven’t met the right one yet, and I’m not in a rush. I’ve been lucky to have amazing men in my life—especially my dad, who earned a Bronze Star and worked at the Pentagon when I was born.
