Let’s talk DIY energy audits. You don’t need an engineering degree to perform a DIY energy audits. Especially on your own home.

Essentially; with a bit of preparation and some common sense, you can easily find many opportunities to cut your home heating, cooling, lighting and appliance costs.

As I explain elsewhere on my site, the first step in any home energy conservation effort is carefully assessing your home’s energy consumption. Then you willknow where you’re using (or losing) energy. Therefore, you’ll then find out ways to cut out waste.

Specifically mentioned were the DIY energy audits with a home electricity monitor like the Kill a Watt meter or the Belkin energy cost monitor to measure the electrical use, in kilowatt hours, of all kinds of household devices.

Then they specifically mentioned the book as the way to go for $20.00 on energy efficiency audits. In addition to HVAC audits, etc.  However, they gave praise to the book.

This is probably the best book on the market for helping people plan their own DIY energy audit. Especially how to and follow up with mote home energy efficiency improvements. Those that also have the highest impact for the lowest cost.

Do-It-Yourself Home Energy Audits helps you determine where your energy budget is being spent. I mean some of it unwisely. Then you can learn how to plan renovations, lifestyle changes, and other actions. Especially that can cut out the utility waste.

It also offers advice on topics such as the impacts of your personal energy and other resource use on the environment. Essentially how to decide which energy efficiency upgrades you can do yourself. In addition, which upgrades that you will need to look for help with. In addition, what kinds of outside funding such as tax rebates and incentives you can take advantage of to help pay for the upgrades you decide on.
