Ford Finds New Use for 4.1 Million Pounds of Recycled Carpet – Under Your Feet!!

Source: Ford Motor Company
The carpet underfoot in homes sometimes ends up in strange places, and now Ford’s efforts to use sustainable materials in its vehicles have landed carpet in another unique spot – the cylinder head covers on some Ford engines. Even more impressive are the benefits it has for the environment.
During 2010, the use of EcoLon® material, a nylon resin made from 100 percent recycled carpet, saved more than 4.1 million pounds of carpet from landfills, the equivalent of nearly 154 football fields. It also amounted to recycling more than 985,000 yards of carpet and reducing the consumption of more than 430,000 gallons of oil.
The EcoLon material from Wellman Engineering Resins offers an eco-friendly, high-quality alternative to typical cylinder head covers and is one more example of Ford’s continued dedication to finding renewable material solutions for use in its vehicles. The cylinder head covers are manufactured by Dana Holding Corporation.

The barrage of lawsuits, town-hall meetings and online community groups was also becoming a major headache for KKR & Co., TPG Capital and Goldman Sachs Group Inc.’s private-equity arm, which were planning the world’s biggest leveraged buyout of the utility company.
“We had to get the environmentalists on board,” recalls William Reilly, senior adviser at Fort Worth, Texas-based TPG, who headed the Environmental Protection Agency under President George H.W. Bush.

JennyBec’s: Sustainable Shopping for Kids

Here are just four of their cool green toys!! Some great stuff from the Green Toys the company!!! This is the first time I am learning something about this company, but as a dad myself, it’s good to now know there is a green toy company out there; LITERALLY!!
I made a connection recently and I was bombarded with one thing that in a million years that would have NEVER thought of but it did.
A kid’s toy store that had something green. I was like, “I don’t get it,” but I knew something was green since it was the reason someone reaches out to me; right?
