Target LED Lights: A Game Changer for Retail

The Situation Meets a Bright Situation

In an unexpected turn, Target went full eco with its latest ad campaign featuring none other than Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino. That’s right—the reality star from Jersey Shore found himself under energy-efficient lights while flexing his abs and charm. The twist? Target used LED lighting for the shoot.

Why is this newsworthy? Because mainstream retailers rarely showcase green lighting in such high-profile campaigns—let alone on celebrities better known for nightclubs than net-zero emissions. Still, it’s refreshing to see a retail giant like Target pushing energy-efficient lighting into the spotlight. Literally.

LEDs Hit the Big Time

So what’s the big deal with LED lighting? For starters, LEDs consume up to 80% less energy than incandescent bulbs. They last longer, save money, and reduce carbon footprints. If major retailers begin adopting and promoting these technologies, consumers take notice.

This Target moment—whether intentional or not—sends a clear signal: energy efficiency is officially part of pop culture. That’s a win for sustainability. And for someone like The Situation, who’s used to shining under nightclub strobes, this is an upgrade that doesn’t cost the planet.

Now About My Book…

Of course, watching Target spotlight LEDs got me thinking. Green Lighting—the book I co-authored with Brian Clark Howard and published with McGraw-Hill—was ahead of its time. It explores everything from residential retrofits to large-scale commercial upgrades. It’s a blueprint for saving money and energy, wrapped in accessible language and backed by solid research.

So when I saw Target go LED, I laughed and said, “Now they just need to carry my book in stores!” I’m joking… kind of.

Retailers Can Drive Change

Humor aside, the fact that Target is embracing sustainable lighting (even if only in ads) means something. Retailers influence public habits. They influence supplier behavior. And when companies that big choose to go green—even in subtle ways—it encourages industry-wide shifts.

It’s no longer just about government incentives or niche eco boutiques. The clean energy movement is crossing over into mass market culture. When “The Situation” becomes a face of green tech, we’re clearly turning a corner.

Next Steps: From Ads to Action

The hope now is that Target—and other large chains—follow through. Let’s see energy-efficient lighting not only in photoshoots but also in every aisle and at every checkout lane. Let’s see energy-labeled products, solar-powered signage, and store managers trained in sustainability.

Better yet, let’s see shelves stocked with practical guides that help consumers take action at home. Books like Green Lighting, for example, give people the tools to reduce their bills and build a cleaner future.

A Bright Future

So kudos to Target for embracing LED lighting—even if the path there involved a reality star known more for bronzer than brightness. It’s a fun moment, but also an important one.

Because the future is energy-efficient. The lighting is getting smarter. And maybe, just maybe, the next wave of shoppers will pick up some green habits… and maybe even my book.
