Target Stores Take Climate Change Seriously So They Go Local!

Source: Target

While Target must take responsibility for their own contributions to climate change, a solution requires a joint effort among businesses, individuals and government. Target supports government action toward restricting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and Target are participating in a solution-oriented dialogue with policymakers and other stakeholders. Target supports:

A national, market-based approach to GHG-emission reduction and a national standard for green building codes and certifications.

Target discloses its carbon emissions each year through the Carbon Disclosure Project; an investor-supported group that solicits emissions data from large companies. Target’s taking steps to lessen their impact through enhancement of their energy-efficient store design, using Green Lighting, new HVAC and green power.

Target is committed to reducing their global carbon footprint and setting meaningful carbon-reduction goals and it shows; really..

Clean Transport

Another area of focus is transportation, where Target continuously employs new programs to increase use of trucks that use clean diesel or liquefied natural gas, use best-in-class technology to optimize freight movements so Target makes shorter trips, and instituted a no-idle policy at all their facilities!! Target also is a partner in the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) SmartWay transport program.  This is an innovative collaboration between the freight industry and the government to reduce air pollution, greenhouse gas emissions and improve fuel efficiency.

While these programs are a good start, Target is committed to reducing their global carbon footprint and setting meaningful carbon-reduction goals.

If we are all following the same rules and working toward consistent goals, jointly we can have a more meaningful and quicker impact on greenhouse gas reductions and improve our communities together.
