Silver Spring Networks Wants US to Have Hybrid Electric Cars that Sell Power Back to Grid

You heard it!!
The Green Living Guy is writing about green living for Findthebest.com. My first story is about plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and the smart grid. Silver Spring Networks, a Smart Grid software company has got their hands on a 2012 prototype Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV). Yet, what is a PHEV? A PHEV is taking a Ford Escape Hybrid or a Toyota Prius (for example) and converting it to a partial electric car. So, the car turns on EV for up to say 50 or 60 miles per hour and then goes hybrid mode, equaling 100-250 miles per gallon.
This could be big if we are commuters using mass transit or even stuck on the Brooklyn / Queens Expressway (otherwise known as the BQE). PHEV and SmartGrid Demonstration Program – Silver Spring To Test Real Time Smart Grid For Selling Power Back To Grid PHEV or even Electric CARS (EV) at the train station in a city to charge up at night can add load leveling which helps the electric grid. So when you charge your electric car at night, it’s like a solar panel does reversing the meter backwards. Then the electric company pays you (versus the lovely way it is right now!).

Building Ford Coatings: Improves Comfort plus Cutting Energy Costs With 3M

P R O B L E M
Ford Motor Company found it challenging to maintain comfortable temperatures for employees year-round in its 40-year-old headquarters in Detroit, a 12-story building faced almost entirely with glass. Glare from the sun also made it difficult for employees in the building to see computer screens.
S O L U T I O N
After 40 years of trying various fixes to control temperatures in the building, Ford’s problem was solved when Specialty Protective Coatings, an authorized dealer for 3M Scotchtint window films, of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, applied P18AR Scotchtint window film to every one of the building’s 3,083 windows.
According to company owner Mike Roeder, Specialty Protective Coatings covered more than 83,000 square feet of glass. And, due to the expertise and efficiency of Specialty Protective Coatings’ experienced crew, the project was completed six weeks ahead of schedule.
