City of Tucson Water Department and Trico Electric Dedicate 1-Megawatt SunPower Solar Power System

TUCSON, Ariz. and SAN JOSE, Calif., April 21, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — The City of Tucson, Ariz., Tucson Water Department, Trico Electric and SunPower Corp. (Nasdaq: SPWRA, SPWRB) today dedicated a 1-megawatt, ground-mounted solar power system, which doubles the solar power system capacity hosted by the city. The system was designed and built by SunPower on city-owned, former agricultural land located within Tucson Water Department’s underground water storage and recovery facility, approximately 20 miles west of downtown Tucson.
“With these systems, Tucson is reinforcing its commitment to energy conservation, waste reduction and environmental protection. SunPower’s technology will ensure that the system delivers energy in a cost effective manner that benefits the community,” stated Interim Director of Tucson Water Andrew Quigley.
The City of Tucson financed the system through a power purchase agreement with SunPower. Under the terms of the agreement, Wells Fargo owns the system that SunPower designed, built, operates, and maintains. Trico Electric, the utility serving the site, provided additional funding via its SunWatts renewable energy incentive program. The city is hosting the system and buying the electricity produced by it. Trico Electric Cooperative will purchase the renewable energy credits (RECs) associated with the system. The city’s cost for the energy will be competitive with its current bulk retail rate, with no initial capital investment.

SunPower to Build 1.7 Megawatts of Solar Power Systems for Rancho California Water District

TEMECULA, Calif., May 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — Rancho California Water District (RCWD) and SunPower Corp.(Nasdaq: SPWRA, SPWRB) today announced that SunPower will design and construct solar power systems totaling 1.7 megawatts at two RCWD facilities. The systems are expected to save the district approximately $8.5 million in electricity costs over the next 25 years. In 2009, SunPower designed and built a 1.1-megawatt solar system for RCWD’s Santa Rosa Water Reclamation Facility in Murrieta, Calif.
Under this new agreement, SunPower will build a 1.1-megawatt SunPower T0 Tracker system at the district’s Senga Doherty Pump Station in Murrieta. The Tracker positions SunPower solar panels, the most efficient solar panels available on the market today, to follow the sun’s movement during the day. This increases sunlight capture by up to 25 percent over conventional fixed-tilt systems, while significantly reducing land use requirements.
At RCWD headquarters in Temecula, SunPower will construct a 610-kilowatt solar parking canopy structure, providing both shade in the parking lot and solar electric power for RCWD’s facility.

UC Davis West Village Rising as the Largest Planned Zero Net Energy Community in the U.S.

DAVIS, Calif., May 19, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — The largest planned Zero Net Energy development in the U.S. is readying for its debut this fall.
Under construction on the University of California, Davis campus, UC Davis West Village is combining advanced energy efficient design features with a 4-megawatt (MW), high efficiency SunPower solar power system to achieve the largest planned Zero Net Energy development in the nation.
UC Davis West Village is the product of an innovative public-private partnership between UC Davis and West Village Community Partnership, LLC, a joint venture led by San Francisco-based Carmel Partners with their partner Urban Villages of Denver.
