McGraw-Hill Embraces Solar: A Home Energy Revolution in New Jersey
Hey there, green friends! I’ve got some exciting news to share with you today. Back in 2011, McGraw-Hill made a fantastic leap into the world of renewable energy by installing solar power at their home in New Jersey. As someone who’s been championing green living for years, I can’t tell you how thrilled I was to see a major publishing company taking this step!
The solar installation wasn’t just about making an environmental statement—it was a practical move to save energy and cut costs. I’ve always said that going solar is one of the smartest investments you can make for your home, and McGraw-Hill clearly got the memo!

Site Visit
When I visited the site, I was impressed by the comprehensive solar array they had installed. The system was designed to maximize energy capture throughout the day, even in New Jersey where we don’t always get the sunshine that California or Arizona enjoys. But that’s one of the myths I’m always busting—you don’t need to live in the desert to benefit from solar power!
What really excited me about this project was how it demonstrated that solar isn’t just for individual homeowners. Here was McGraw-Hill, a company also known for publishing educational materials including my own Green series. Now they are walking the walk and more importantly, not just talking the talk.

The system was also estimated to reduce their energy costs significantly while slashing their carbon footprint. That’s the beautiful thing about solar—it’s a win-win for your wallet and our planet!
You Should Make the Switch to Solar like McGraw Hill
For those of you thinking about making the switch to solar, let me tell you, there’s never been a better time. The technology has improved dramatically since 2011, costs have come down, and incentives are still available in many states. I’ve helped countless folks make the transition, and I’ve yet to meet someone who regretted putting those panels on their roof.
McGraw-Hill’s decision to embrace solar energy back in 2011. For they were forward-thinking. Now, it has undoubtedly paid dividends. That’s both financially and also environmentally over the years. It’s examples like these that also continue to inspire me. Especially in my mission to promote sustainable living and clean energy solutions.

Most importantly, this solar power project is the largest privately-owned, net-metered solar project. Essentially in the Western Hemisphere.
Archer & Greiner
Archer & Greiner have successfully handled all the permitting, land use approvals, tax issues, the Power Purchase Agreement and also the Solar Land Lease. That’s as well as other contracts for McGraw-Hill.
Finally, the 14.1 megawatt, state-of-the-art, ground-mounted solar array. It is being developed on a 50-acre parcel which is also adjacent to McGraw-Hill’ s two office buildings. That’s also including a notable 180,000-square foot data center. Furthermore, the energy produced by the project is also expected to reduce McGraw-Hill’ s annual global carbon emissions. All by the equivalent of about 10 percent. So that will significantly lower the company’ s long-term electricity costs.
