Ford Site Environmental Cleanup and Community Impact

Major milestone achieved in grassroots campaign to permanently clean-up Ford’s toxic dump site at a New Jersey state park; NJ officially backs away from plans to transfer ownership of contaminated site to back to Ford
New Jersey officials issued a statement at a packed community hearing yesterday assuring residents that efforts by Ford to gain ownership over a section of a state park where the car company dumped toxic waste are off the table.
The news follows a long-running grassroots effort and popular petition on Change.org to clean up the toxic waste left by Ford at Ringwood State Park in the 1960s and 1970s.
The state’s statement represents a major shift in the local effort to clean-up the contamination of Ringwood State Park, a campaign that has received national attention in recent weeks and was the subject of an HBO documentary that aired last month.

The image showcases a vibrant solar panel installation at Google's Mountain View headquarters. It captures a sunny day with sleek solar panels glistening under the sun, and diverse Google employees actively engaged in monitoring and maintaining the panels, highlighting teamwork and innovation against the backdrop of Google's iconic campus buildings.

Google’s Solar Energy Journey: Challenges and Insights

Google went solar. And did not get it right.
Neither did most other folks. Not at first: They all forgot monitoring.
No, not the system level monitoring that even Google said was not much help in making sure they were getting the most energy out of its system.
But panel level monitoring that tells you when a panel goes bad. And more importantly, where that panel is.
Which Google and most folks don’t do now. And that is why a surprising number of people are getting less power than they expected from their solar arrays. If they know at all.
This is happening all over the country. And no one wants to talk about it.

Putting People Back Working Doesn’t Require Sacrificing Healthy Environment

President Obama took a solid first step toward putting America’s economy back on track, but more needs to be done, according to the Natural Resources Defense Council.
Following is a statement by Frances Beinecke, president of NRDC:
“President Obama has presented a real plan to get Americans back to work – unlike Republican leaders in Congress whose so-called jobs agenda would destroy our environmental and health safeguards.
“We can put Americans back to work and still protect public health. To pretend that we must choose one or another is a false choice that needlessly puts workers and their families at risk.

Protecting Lake Simcoe: Environmental and Economic Benefits

Canada’s Environment Minister, the Honourable Peter Kent, announced that the Government of Canada will continue its support for the clean up of Lake Simcoe.
The Government will invest $2.9M in the seventh round of the Lake Simcoe Clean-Up Fund, as part of the Action Plan for Clean Water. Initiatives funded by the Lake Simcoe Clean-Up Fund are designed to preserve and protect the environment of Lake Simcoe.
“This government is committed to ensuring cleaner waters from coast to coast for all Canadians. Since 2008, the Government of Canada’s $30 million Lake Simcoe Clean-Up Fund has allowed Canadians who work, live and play near Lake Simcoe to enjoy the benefits of a cleaner lake,” said Minister Kent.
“The Lake Simcoe Clean-Up Fund makes the protection and rehabilitation of Lake Simcoe’s environment a priority and we are delivering real results,” said Minister Van Loan, Member of Parliament for York-Simcoe. “This latest round of projects will continue to support community groups and organizations that are working hard to protect Lake Simcoe’s watershed for future generations.”

Solar Energy College Brings Green Technology to Life

When students at Okanagan College’s new Centre of Excellence in Penticton plug in their laptops this fall, they’ll only have to look up and outside to see the source of their energy.
The solar energy system at Okanagan College’s newest building is the largest system developed in Western Canada. SkyFire Energy, one of Canada’s most experienced solar EPC contractors, was the project developer for the 260 kW solar energy system which is using 1,106 Conergy P solar modules, on the rooftop of Okanagan College’s newest building on its Penticton campus. Generating about 292,500 kWh per year, the solar energy system will help the building – the Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Building Technologies and Renewable Energy Conservation – meet the goal of being energy neutral over the course of an annual operating cycle.
