GreenTowns
More than 80 Connecticut organizations, businesses and green leaders are involved in a new campaign. It’s essentially to connect green initiatives and their supporters in and across every city and town in Connecticut. The Connecticut Campaign for Sustainable Communities spearheaded by Fairfield-based GreenTowns.com. This effort aims to connect sustainability leaders, mayors, green businesses, non-profits and local citizens. Those wanting to work together and to build awareness. In addition to providing support for each other in the “greening” of Connecticut.
Daphne Dixon emphasized that groundbreaking sustainability efforts are happening across Connecticut. Moreover, dedicated individuals continue to lead meaningful environmental initiatives every day. At the same time, many committed organizations have built successful programs that others can replicate or expand.
Therefore, GreenTowns aims to accelerate those connections. Specifically, the platform helps bring people, organizations, and communities together to share ideas and proven solutions. During October alone, GreenTowns sought to connect 1,000 people across Connecticut. As those connections grow, knowledge spreads faster. Consequently, collaboration increases. Ultimately, the faster people unite around sustainability, the sooner Connecticut can achieve its environmental goals.

A Unifying Network: GreenTowns
Created as a unifying network to share information. In addition to ideas and connections across all categories of sustainability, GreenTowns.com is already a vital resource. One that features a wide array of green initiatives large and small. That’s from energy projects and shore preservation to charging stations and farmers markets. Then from innovative recycling programs and organic gardening classes. To green building ventures and local community advocacy efforts.
GreenTowns’ Connecticut Campaign for Sustainable Communitiesbuilds on this foundation, connecting people through GreenTowns.com, personal profiles, email updates and expert-moderated list-serves, as well as sharing partner-driven content on Facebook, Twitter and the GreenTowns Talk blog.
GreenTowns website
GreenTowns.com launched in May 2011. It’s starting the network for sustainable communities. More than 15,000 local efforts in nine green categories are now featured on the site. Essentially where connections are being made between people across America. The ConnecticutCampaign for Sustainable Communities is the first phase. This is to intensify this level of connection and mutual support on a state-by-state basis.
“Living on the shores of Long Island Sound gives Norwalk a special reason to take our environmental responsibilities seriously,” said Norwalk Mayor Richard A. Moccia. “GreenTowns offers a new way to share ideas and conversation around important green issues and we look forward to learning about solutions that are working in other towns and communicating successes like our efforts to preserve water quality and our Electric Vehicle Charging Stations.”
