Protect Arctic Wildlife Refuge for Future Generations

For over 30 years, the Sierra Club has worked to protect the pristine wilderness of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge: petitioning Congress to protect the coastal plain as wilderness and blocking numerous attempts to open the refuge to oil and gas development. They are also working hard to promote a rapid shift to clean, renewable forms of energy which will slow the effects of global warming on the Refuge, as well as organizing citizens in communities around the country to take action to ensure that this crown jewel of our wild heritage is permanently protected. Right now, We have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to protect the Arctic wilderness. We’re almost there, but we need your help to make it.

For over 30 years, the Sierra Club has consistently worked tirelessly to protect the pristine wilderness of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Specifically, it advocates for its conservation against various industrial pressures that threaten its delicate ecosystem. Protecting Arctic wildlife refuge remains a central goal of this advocacy. This effort, in fact, has involved extensive collaboration with local communities. It also involves scientists and environmental activists who understand the intrinsic value of this area—not only for its diverse wildlife but also for its crucial role in climate regulation. Moreover, the organization has organized numerous campaigns aimed at, notably, raising awareness and mobilizing public support. Thus, it emphasizes the importance of preserving such irreplaceable natural habitats for future generations. Through education and grassroots initiatives, the Sierra Club continues to champion the cause of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Consequently, its breathtaking landscapes and rich biodiversity are safeguarded from exploitation.

So petitioning Congress to protect the coastal plain as wilderness has become an urgent matter of environmental concern. It emphasizes the necessity of safeguarding these delicate ecosystems from the adverse impacts of industrial activities. This effort involves rallying support from various organizations and concerned citizens alike. They recognize the intrinsic value of preserving the refuge’s natural state. Additionally, by blocking numerous attempts to open the refuge to oil and gas development, advocates are not only protecting wildlife habitats and biodiversity. They are also fostering a broader dialogue about sustainable practices and the importance of environmental stewardship for future generations. The stakes are high, especially as the outcome of these efforts will significantly influence both the local community and the ecological health of the region for years to come.

Important Decision

This November, the Obama administration will make a consequential decision regarding the future of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. This decision holds the potential to ensure that the wildest part of the refuge — the coastal plain — remains pristine and untouched for generations to come. It aims to preserve its rich biodiversity and stunning natural beauty. Stakeholders from various sectors, including environmentalists, local communities, and businesses, are encouraged to voice their opinions and concerns as the administration navigates this critical issue. They are accepting public comments on this decision until November 15th, just a few days away. Therefore, it is imperative for those who care about the preservation of this unique ecosystem to act quickly and engage in the discussion.

So far, close to 90,000 of your fellow Sierra Club members and supporters have made their voices heard for the Arctic. We are running out of time to hit our goal of 100,000 comments. Will you help by adding your voice?

This is definitely a historic opportunity to protect one of our last remaining vast and untouched wilderness areas. This sanctuary harbors not only breathtaking landscapes but also an incredible diversity of wildlife. They depend on this fragile ecosystem for survival. We can’t let this chance go to waste. Failing to act now could jeopardize the natural heritage that has been preserved for generations. Please take a moment to send your comment now. Each voice matters in this critical moment of decision-making. You could be the 100,000th voice for the Arctic, joining a chorus of passionate advocates. They recognize the importance of safeguarding our planet’s natural resources for future generations. Your contribution can make a significant difference. It ensures that this pristine environment remains protected against the threats of development and climate change.

The Arctic Refuge

The Arctic Refuge is home to polar bears, caribou, birds that visit all 50 states, and musk oxen. The warming Arctic is already threatening the land and wildlife. It is our responsibility to protect this land, not to hand it over to Big Oil.

The best thing you can do to protect the Arctic is to write your comment to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Obama administration. Urge them to recommend a wilderness designation for the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge’s Coastal Plain. This will protect it from oil and gas development.

Thank you for all that you do for our wild places. Your efforts play a crucial role in preserving the beauty and diversity of nature that we often take for granted. Your dedication helps protect the delicate ecosystems that sustain countless species. It ensures that future generations can experience the wonder of these magnificent landscapes. It is through your commitment and passion that we can continue to enjoy the vibrant colors, sounds, and life in our natural environments. This reminds us of the importance of conservation and stewardship for our planet.

Sincerely,
