NYSERDA Funding $1 Million in Clean Energy for NYC and Long Island
The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) has committed $1 million to funding help four manufacturers in New York City and Long Island advance clean energy power systems. This funding is part of a much larger $7 million statewide initiative that supports 17 different companies focused on renewable and sustainable solutions. At the same time, Energy Storage Solutions, also based in New York City, secured $290,000. The company is creating a flywheel-based storage system with advanced, low-friction ball bearings that require little or no maintenance. Instead of wasting energy as heat, elevators will capture and reuse it, feeding the electricity back into the building’s grid. Their system uses a supersonic nozzle to transform carbon dioxide into tiny dry-ice particles. These frozen particles are easier to capture and store compared to chemical-based carbon removal, and they require far less energy.
