Lexus LF-LC Hybrid Sport Coupe Wins 2012 EyesOn Design Concept Award
A Bold Debut at the Detroit Auto Show
The Lexus LF-LC Hybrid Sport Coupe design concept made waves at the 2012 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. Just days after its reveal, the concept earned one of the auto industry’s top honors—the EyesOn Design Award for Best Concept Car.
This Lexus Design concept award was judged by top automotive designers. It’s been recognized the LF-LC for its innovation, styling, and also future-forward design language.

Lexus Design Concept to Turn Heads
Created at Toyota’s Calty design studio in California, the LF-LC blends luxury with bold performance aesthetics. Its long, sculpted hood, aggressive stance, and wraparound glass roof make it a clear departure from traditional Lexus styling.
Yet it’s still unmistakably Lexus. The spindle grille—now a brand signature—anchors the front end, while futuristic LED lighting and sharp contours add drama from every angle.
Hybrid Power Meets High Performance
Underneath the sleek body, the LF-LC uses a next-generation hybrid drivetrain. While Lexus didn’t release full specs, the goal was clear: pair sustainability with power. This concept signaled Lexus’s intent to push hybrids beyond economy into performance territory.
The idea was to merge advanced fuel efficiency with a thrilling driving experience—something Lexus would explore further in future models.
Recognition That Signals the Future
Winning the EyesOn Design Award is no small feat. It shows that Lexus isn’t just thinking about what’s next—they’re actively designing it. The LF-LC concept hints at the brand’s future approach to electric and hybrid vehicles: bold, luxurious, and exciting.
And while it was only a concept in 2012, elements of the LF-LC can be seen in later models like the Lexus LC 500h, which brought many of these design cues into production.
