More information on SEE-U:
The SEE-U program is designed to expose students to ecological fieldwork in unique and interesting natural settings. The real-world laboratories of tropical, temperate, and endangered ecosystems allow for a first hand knowledge and understanding that is elusive in a traditional classroom.
SEE-U faculty members engage students to think about the broader implications of the experience to issues of biodiversity, climate change, and sustainability. As one student put it, “On this program you don’t only learn about ecology. You also learn about a new country, about yourself, and you bond with your classmates and instructors in a way that is impossible to do in a formal classroom.”
Students in good academic standing from all majors at all accredited colleges or universities may apply. Columbia maintains high academic standards, and it is very likely that your institution will accept these credits as fulfillment for laboratory requirements. If you have any questions, or if your advisor would like to speak with one of our faculty members, please call or e-mail us.
Fellowships are available in amounts up to $3,000 for our 6 credit programs at all field sites. To apply for a fellowship simply fill out that portion of the application.
CERC offers rolling admissions for the SEE-U Program. Our next application deadline is March 20, 2012. Applications will be considered as they are received and there are a limited number of spaces available for our various field sites; the earlier you apply the better the chance that there will be space available at the field site of your choice.
