🚚 Sevcon to Supply Motor Controllers for AUCMA Electric Truck

Southborough, Mass., July 23, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Chinese manufacturer AUCMA Electric Vehicle Co. Ltd has chosen Sevcon as its motor controller supplier for the new A-2 light-duty electric truck.

The A-2 is aimed at municipal fleets in both China and overseas markets. Because it uses a 72V, 16kW AC motor, it needs advanced control technology. Sevcon will supply its Gen4 digital motor controller with regenerative braking technology. This partnership highlights AUCMA EV’s commitment to quality, as the company is based in Qingdao, Shandong Province, and wants to expand globally.

⚡ Tailored Performance for Every Truck Type

Raymond Zhu, CEO of AUCMA EV, explained why the Sevcon controller is the best choice. He noted that it offers adjustable parameters so they can tailor performance for any truck type. For example, configurations range from flatbed trucks to cargo box models.

He also praised Sevcon’s support:

“The Sevcon controller is perfectly suited for the A-2 truck application. Its adjustable parameters allow us to tailor the performance to any specific truck type, from flatbed to cargo box vehicles. The customer support we have received from Sevcon has been exceptional, and the company has worked hard to ensure the controller will work effectively across our applications.”

🔋 Technical Specs and Charging Benefits

The A-2’s electric drivetrain delivers up to 150 kilometers (about 93 miles) of range. Meanwhile, it can reach a top speed of over 50 kph (31 mph). Because fleet operators need reliable charging, the truck can be fully recharged in 8 hours via a 220V 30A socket.

Also, the onboard charger includes safety features. For instance, it will automatically switch off when the battery is fully charged, reducing the risk of overcharging and making overnight charging worry-free.

🌍 Growing Demand in Overseas Markets

Sevcon President and CEO Matt Boyle also highlighted the significance of this partnership. He emphasized that working with AUCMA EV on the A-2 truck adds another important customer application for Sevcon’s Gen4 controllers.

“We were delighted to work with AUCMA EV on its new A-2 electric truck, which marks another customer application for our Gen4 controllers. We believe there are huge opportunities for electrification in the commercial vehicle segment and look forward to seeing the A-2 in action both in China and overseas markets, such as the USA.”

This statement shows how Sevcon sees commercial vehicle electrification as a huge growth opportunity.

🇨🇳 ➡️ 🇺🇸 AUCMA’s Global Expansion Strategy

The A-2 truck will enter service in municipal fleets operated by local authorities across China. However, AUCMA EV is also planning for international markets.

For example, the company will ship part-assembled A-2 trucks to the USA. Once there, they will be completed and sold from a base in California. Because this approach cuts shipping costs and simplifies final customization, it makes the truck more competitive in the U.S.

This strategy also supports local jobs while appealing to U.S. fleet operators looking for cleaner, more efficient transportation solutions. Meanwhile, it underscores AUCMA EV’s plan to become a truly global player in electric commercial.
