New Orleans, LA – BP has deployed remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) to investigate a small oil sheen spotted in the Gulf of Mexico near the site of the 2010 Deepwater Horizon disaster. The move comes after satellite images and aerial observations confirmed a visible slick on the water’s surface.

However, company officials suspect leaking oil could come from an abandoned piece of subsea equipment. To pinpoint the source, BP is using ROVs to survey the seabed and inspect the wreckage of the failed Deepwater Horizon blowout preventer and other debris.
