Enforcing environmental laws against those who violated rules. Well I mean that is one of EPA’s fundamental responsibilities. For it also helps keep our water safe. In addition to our land clean and air clear. That set of comments most importantly came from Ed Kowalski. Ed is the director of EPA Region 10 Compliance and Enforcement.

For he added:

Vigorous and fair enforcement provides the protection. Most importantly for our communities. Moreover that they expect. As well as the certainty sought by business and also by industry.

In addition, EPA enforcement helps deter violators. For those most likely to pollute and who might otherwise gain an unfair business advantage. Moreover over their competitors who are environmentally compliant.

Most interestingly but I think i kind of knew this.  Penalties vary. I mean depending on the severity of the violations. Look, I mean if there’s especially a history of past violations. That’s an OY for me.

Compliance Orders direct violators to bring their activities into compliance with the rules.

However they do not include penalties. In October, November and December, EPA Region 10 assessed more than $630,000. That’s most noteworthy in federal penalties against the violators.

EPA Region 10 enforcement actions from October through December 2012 are summarized below.

  1. State
  2. Location

  3. Name

  4. Violation

  5. Penalty

  6. Date

So this violation was in AK or Alaska folks!

  1. Located in Kenai at the 2-Go Mart Tesoro #206. For they violated underground storage tank (UST) rules. In addition, the fee was $210 on 10/09/2012.
  2. This second violation was in AK. It was located in Wasilla and at the Holiday Stationstore #650. It seems they violated underground storage tank (UST) rules. So their fees were $420 and on 10/11/2012.
  3. So this third violation was in AK. Also in Fairbanks at the Holiday Stationstore #626. In addition they also violated underground storage tank (UST) rules. Their fee also was $210 and on 10/11/2012.
  4. Also AK and Anchorage for this one. This oh boy was at the Ted Stevens Anchorage Airport. More interestingly, they violated underground storage tank (UST) rules. So their fees were $1,260 and on 10/11/2012.
  5. This AK violated was in North Slope Borough. It was also at the Conoco Philips Alaska, Inc. For they spilled oil at Kuparuk River field (CWA). Moreover their fee was $45,000 and it was on 10/17/2012.
  6. And another in AK. For this was in Healy. It’s also located at the Golden Valley Electric and also Alaska Industrial Development. What a doozy I say! For this one they violated air permitting requirements. All located also at Healy power plant (CAA). So for this I think it’s the biggest so far but $115,000. Also it was on 11/19/2012.
  7. So we have another AK at Glacier Bay NP. For whoa this is I think a doozy. Can you say Princess Cruise Lines and they violated wastewater discharge permit (CWA). Yet I feel it wasn’t as bad as the one before since cleanup costs this I guess but they got fined $20,000 on 12/17/2012.
