ConEd Solutions wins $56M contract from U.S. Army to boost energy efficiency at 90 sitesValhalla, NY — January 13, 2014: ConEdison Solutions (CES), one of the country’s largest save energy services companies. Most recently, it has signed a $56 million contract with the U.S. Army Reserve’s 99th Regional Support Command (RSC) to provide energy efficiency services and operations and maintenance support at 90 sites in 11 states.

Introduction

The contract is a component of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC) program. Under this initiative, a limited number of qualified, private-sector energy service providers will be selected. They are selected on a competitive basis. It can also provide and save you on energy efficiency, renewable energy and water conservation services. Especially to federally owned buildings and facilities.

According to federal officials, the Energy Department’s ESPC program is also designed to save energy services and costs. I mean seriously reduce federal energy costs. Also it will cut greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore bringing more cutting-edge technologies to use. All to be strengthening national security and help strengthen the economy.

Energy Efficiency Saves Energy Period

“Energy efficiency enables government agencies to devote more of their resources to their core mission,” said Jorge J. Lopez, President and also CEO of ConEdison Solutions. “We are proud that our company has been selected to help the Army save in a more energy-efficient environment. It is our services like ConEdison Solutions that enable the federal government to meet its energy conservation goals. Especially without spending scarce dollars on facility upgrades.”

“Essentially,” Mr. Lopez said, “the energy savings pay for the energy improvements.”

As one of sixteen vendors nationwide to earn designation as an approved provider, the Department of Energy (DOE) has formally recognized ConEdison Solutions’ qualifications for helping federal agencies achieve their ambitious energy savings goals.

Under the DOE awards, contractors design, construct and obtain financing for energy projects and facility upgrades. Then, over time, an agency pays for the improvements using funds that had been previously budgeted. All which would have otherwise been applied toward utility bills in the absence of an energy-reduction program.

Financial Impact to Save Energy Service

In terms of both its financial impact and its capacity to reduce energy use, the ESPC initiative is highly beneficial to taxpayers. By using energy savings performance contracts, agencies can also undertake energy initiatives without using appropriated money.

Taxpayers also enjoy protection because the contractor guarantees that improvements will definitely generate the full amount of projected savings. This guarantee also ensures that the improvements installed will operate as designed. If they do not, the contractor would be obligated to make the government whole for any shortfalls caused by non-performance.

Conclusion

The final design and construction for the project is underway and should be completed in 2015.
