NISSAN CHARGERS REACHES MAJOR EV MILESTONE

So Nissan chargers get installed in Europe. For the 1000th quick charger was dropped. The unit also sits at Roadchef Clacket Lane Services in Surrey, UK. This moreover definitely marks a significant turning point. Especially for electric mobility across the continent.

CHARGING IN MINUTES, NOT HOURS

The CHAdeMO charger powers EVs from zero to 80% in just 30 minutes. Drivers pay nothing to use it. Nissan’s LEAF owners benefit immediately. The new e-NV200 electric van will use these chargers too.

DRAMATIC IMPACT ON EV ADOPTION

Quick chargers transform driving habits. As well, Norway proves this conclusively. For their E18 highway saw EV traffic increase eightfold. This also happened within 18 months of installing a single CHAdeMO charger.

“Fast charging eliminates range anxiety,” says Jean Pierre Diernaz, Nissan Europe’s Director of Electric Vehicles. For drivers now can travel confidently between major cities.

STRATEGIC LOCATION EXPANDS POSSIBILITIES

The milestone charger also sits on London’s busy M25 motorway. Furthermore, this location connects drivers; especially to Kent and mainland Europe. For a UK green energy specialist called Ecotricity also partnered on the installation. They power chargers with wind and also solar electricity.

EXPLOSIVE GROWTH CONTINUES

Nissan’s charging network expands rapidly. The UK alone hosts 195 quick chargers. These create electric corridors linking major population centers.

Consider the growth trajectory:

  • 2010: Just 16 quick chargers in Europe
  • 2012: 540 chargers installed
  • 2013: 1000 chargers milestone reached
  • 2014: Over 1800 chargers projected

PARTNERSHIPS DRIVE ADOPTION

Nissan collaborates with multiple partners. IKEA hosts many charging stations. Moto, Roadchef, and Welcome Break service areas join the network. Nissan dealerships install chargers too.

In addition, the infrastructure builds across Europe through partnerships. Swiss power company ABB contributes significantly. More notably, French manufacturer DBT produces many units. Finally, Portugal’s EFACEC Corporation adds their expertise.

As an EV enthusiast, I love seeing this infrastructure growth. Each new charger opens another travel possibility. As well, the rapid charging revolution changes how we think about electric driving. Range anxiety disappears now with every new installation.
