Eco Friendly Company Celebrates Earth Day Everyday

earthkind, an eco-friendly company that develops and manufactures naturally-efficient solutions for indoor home maintenance, strives to treat every day as Earth Day. They are best known for Fresh Cab® Natural Rodent Repellent an all-natural rodent repellent made exclusively of botanical fibers and oils.

It was incredibly important for Kari Warberg Block, Founder & CEO of earthkind, to undergo a Building for Environmental and Economic Sustainability (BEES©) analysis in 2012. Results showed that Fresh Cab Natural Rodent Repellent’s carbon footprint is less than 2%.

Block says, “As a manufacturer, I thought it was important to analyze the entire life cycle of Fresh Cab Natural Rodent Repellent, from the field to my plant to retail shelves to consumer and back to the ground after disposal.”

Not only is the product manufactured in a way that has minimal impact on the environment, but it has been extensively tested and proven effective, earning recognition as the first and only EPA Registered product of its kind. Additionally, Fresh Cab gives people a safe, easy, and humane option they can feel good about by repelling rodents rather than resorting to dangerous, unpleasant and often lethal traps or poisons.

To spruce up New York City with even more greenery this spring, the New York Restoration Project has partnered with leading online charity auction site, charitybuzz.com, for the first annual Earth Day Auction. The Los Angeles City Council approved moving forward with the Los Angeles Green Business Certification Program. The City of Los Angeles’ initiative, to be administered by the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD), will provide information on how to identify a green business and how businesses can adopt sustainable practices. One of the aims is to enable consumers to support firms that strive to protect the environment. The program was announced at a news conference at Ciudad restaurant. Green Seal, Inc., the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, Green Globe and dineLA, a part of LA INC, The Los Angeles Convention and Visitors Bureau will join the LACCD in its work on this effort.
Joe Veilleux doesn’t view himself as an environmentalist, but he understands how his actions might paint him with that brush. “I’m not an environmentalist,” said Veilleux, general manager of the U.S. operations of natural health ingredient manufacturer Euromed. “I’m a pragmatist. There’s a difference. A lot of environmentalists have characterized their cause as one that pits them directly against corporate America. I’m part of corporate America, but I also recognize the debt I owe to the environment and want to do my fair share to protect it. In the long run, it’s just good for business and there are plenty of examples throughout history of how our environment is one of our most valuable natural resources.” Veilleux’s company is partner with the Everglades Foundation in a campaign dubbed Glade-iator (www.glade-iator.org), which is a model of the public-private partnership Veilleux believes is good for business.
