Ford shows Green Tech at CES for MyEnergi

Ford is showcasing two research projects at the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas for the MyEnergi Lifestyle program. This green living tech will help consumers use energy more efficiently at home:

Nest Collaboration: Ford and Nest are collaborating on an app that helps users manage energy costs and usage. The app will switch to “Away Mode” when a user leaves the home, and will set the house temperature when the vehicle is approaching home again.

Ford Green Energy App: This app will track when renewable energy sources like wind and solar are most active on the grid to help users schedule charging during these periods.

To spruce up New York City with even more greenery this spring, the New York Restoration Project has partnered with leading online charity auction site, charitybuzz.com, for the first annual Earth Day Auction. The Los Angeles City Council approved moving forward with the Los Angeles Green Business Certification Program. The City of Los Angeles’ initiative, to be administered by the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD), will provide information on how to identify a green business and how businesses can adopt sustainable practices. One of the aims is to enable consumers to support firms that strive to protect the environment. The program was announced at a news conference at Ciudad restaurant. Green Seal, Inc., the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, Green Globe and dineLA, a part of LA INC, The Los Angeles Convention and Visitors Bureau will join the LACCD in its work on this effort.
Joe Veilleux doesn’t view himself as an environmentalist, but he understands how his actions might paint him with that brush. “I’m not an environmentalist,” said Veilleux, general manager of the U.S. operations of natural health ingredient manufacturer Euromed. “I’m a pragmatist. There’s a difference. A lot of environmentalists have characterized their cause as one that pits them directly against corporate America. I’m part of corporate America, but I also recognize the debt I owe to the environment and want to do my fair share to protect it. In the long run, it’s just good for business and there are plenty of examples throughout history of how our environment is one of our most valuable natural resources.” Veilleux’s company is partner with the Everglades Foundation in a campaign dubbed Glade-iator (www.glade-iator.org), which is a model of the public-private partnership Veilleux believes is good for business.
