Unveiling the Mitsubishi Concept XR-PHEV
Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) unveiled the futuristic Mitsubishi Concept XR-PHEV at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show. A PHEV is a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle. So it has a certain range that is all electric. Then after the all electric range is depleted, then comes the hybrid electric car.
This bold crossover also features a performance-oriented yet highly efficient plug-in-hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) drivetrain. It hints at Mitsubishi’s future design direction for North America. Moreover, it reaffirms the automaker’s commitment to the U.S. market.
Design and Commitment: Mitsubishi Concept XR-PHEV
“We brought the Concept XR-PHEV to LA to showcase our new design direction,” said MMNA Executive Vice President, Don Swearingen. “Future products will take cues from its dynamic lines. We also want to reinforce that Mitsubishi is here to stay in the United States. As we regrow the brand, we will introduce new models and update existing ones. This will create a new look and value proposition for the brand.”
Sales Growth
Mitsubishi models in the U.S. have seen a year-long upward trajectory. The Outlander Sport leads with year-to-date sales up over 25% from the previous year. Thanks to the Mirage addition in 2014, overall U.S. sales are up 28.9% year-over-year.
