The Green Job Boom

In 2016, the clean power guide for energy sector isn’t just growing. Now it’s exploding like a supernova of opportunity. Millennials and fresh-faced college grads are flocking to this field faster than you can say “solar panel.”

Why the Rush to Green?

  1. Purpose-Driven Work: These young guns want more than a paycheck; they’re after planet-saving action.
  2. Job Security: The green sector’s growing faster than a bamboo forest on steroids.
  3. Innovation Central: It’s where cutting-edge tech meets world-changing impact.

The Numbers Don’t Lie

Hold onto your wind turbines, folks! Environmental science degrees have surged by 24% since 2016.

That’s not just growth; that’s a full-blown green revolution!

Where the Jobs Are according to the Clean Power Guide

  1. Government Gigs: Uncle Sam’s gone green, and he’s hiring!

  2. Green Thumbs: Environmental know-how is hotter than a solar panel in July.

The Education Edge

Universities are stepping up their game. Stanford’s even launched a whole new school for sustainability. It’s like Hogwarts for eco-wizards!

Challenges on the Horizon

It’s not all sunshine and rainbows. The demand for green skills is outpacing supply faster than an electric car off the starting line. We need more trained professionals, and we need them yesterday!

The guidebook also arrives as workers in the fossil fuel sector suffer through recent layoffs in industries like coal mining. These layoffs underscore the urgent national need to support and re-train laid-off fossil fuel industry workers to help build out America’s clean energy infrastructure. For an E2 video showing how a young laid-off Illinois coal miner recently transitioned to a career in solar energy in Missouri, please see here.

New studies based on U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data illustrate just how compelling a career choice clean energy can be. In late March, E2 released a pair of clean energy jobs reports – “Clean Jobs America,” which counted more than 2.5 million clean energy jobs nationwide, and “Clean Jobs Midwest,” which tallied 569,000 clean energy jobs in the 12-state Midwestern region and predicted a 4.4 percent growth rate over the next year. To compare these clean energy jobs numbers to BLS employment data for the fossil fuel industry and other sectors, see here and here.
