Moms Urge EU Parliament to Revoke License of Glyphosate

Statement from Zen Honeycutt

Founder of Moms Across America about glyphosate:

“We (moms) implore the EU Parliament to revoke the license of Glyphosate completely. With clear evidence to moms that Glyphosate is not only a probable carcinogen. In addition , an endocrine disruptor, neurotoxin and causes liver/kidney damage. So even one more day of allowing the use of Glyphosate is causing harm to EU citizens. Moreover and especially children. We do not want to see what has happened in the USA happen in the Europe. Please protect your country and revoke the license of Glyphosate now. We have faith your farmers can farm as has been done for thousands of years. All without toxic chemicals.”

The health issues linked to glyphosate-based herbicides are crippling our US economy. Cancer alone is projected to cost Americans 158 billion by the year 2020 according to the NIH. With 1 out of 2 of our males and 1 of 3 females in America expected to get cancer in America today, the fact is we simply cannot afford to spray a probable carcinogen such as glyphosate on our food or in our public spaces. We urge the EPA to take precautions to protect the health and economy of the United States of America and to revoke the license of glyphosate completely.”

The Los Angeles City Council approved moving forward with the Los Angeles Green Business Certification Program. The City of Los Angeles’ initiative, to be administered by the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD), will provide information on how to identify a green business and how businesses can adopt sustainable practices. One of the aims is to enable consumers to support firms that strive to protect the environment. The program was announced at a news conference at Ciudad restaurant. Green Seal, Inc., the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, Green Globe and dineLA, a part of LA INC, The Los Angeles Convention and Visitors Bureau will join the LACCD in its work on this effort.
Joe Veilleux doesn’t view himself as an environmentalist, but he understands how his actions might paint him with that brush. “I’m not an environmentalist,” said Veilleux, general manager of the U.S. operations of natural health ingredient manufacturer Euromed. “I’m a pragmatist. There’s a difference. A lot of environmentalists have characterized their cause as one that pits them directly against corporate America. I’m part of corporate America, but I also recognize the debt I owe to the environment and want to do my fair share to protect it. In the long run, it’s just good for business and there are plenty of examples throughout history of how our environment is one of our most valuable natural resources.” Veilleux’s company is partner with the Everglades Foundation in a campaign dubbed Glade-iator (www.glade-iator.org), which is a model of the public-private partnership Veilleux believes is good for business.
