EPA water saving tips for the shower

Showering—it’s how you start your day, and it’s also one of the leading sources of water and energy waste in the home. Did you know that showering:

· Accounts for about 17 percent of residential indoor water use
· Adds up to 40 gallons/day for the average family
· Adds up to 1.2 trillion gallons of water used in the U.S. annually
· Can lead to wasted energy too?

To save water and energy, The U.S. EPA’s WaterSense program is encouraging Americans to Shower Better. This is in conjunction with Energy Awareness Month. Furthermore, about replacing just one older, inefficient showerhead. Replace it with a new WaterSense labeled model will result in so much. Like.

· Saving 2,900 gallons of water per year for the average family, and 260 billion gallons of water per year nationwide
· Saving $2.2 billion on our water utility bills nationwide
· Avoiding $2.6 billion in energy costs for heating water nationwide
· Saving the amount of electricity it takes to power the average family’s home for 13 days and reduce their annual water and energy costs by more than $70
· Enough electricity to power a 60-watt light bulb for eight hours, with every shower

To kick off this new campaign, WaterSense has released this small infographic for sharing via social media and blogs. You can also join this important conversation on energy and water effiency with the hashtag #ShowerBetter.

  1. I have used one of the watersense shower heads and the water pressure is even better than the one I had before. I would recommend anyone to buy one of these as they are not only good shower heads but also save water and money!
