So a breakthrough in perovskite solar cells is part the solution to the UK’s longstanding energy shortage. Consequently, Scientists attending the Materials Research Society conference in Boston, Massachusetts reported back in 2014. Reporting news of vast improvements in the efficiency of photovoltaics!

So perovskite materials, such as methylammonium lead halides and all-inorganic cesium lead halide are cheap to produce. As well as they are simple to manufacture.

Solar cell efficiencies of devices using these materials increasing from 3.8% in 2009^[4] to 25.2% in 2019. All in single-junction architectures,^[5]and, in silicon-based tandem cells, to 28.0%,^[5]exceeding the maximum efficiency achieved in single-junction silicon solar cells. Perovskite solar cells are therefore the fastest-advancing solar technology to date.^[2]

So nowadays and with the potential of achieving even higher efficiencies. Even with very low production costs, perovskite solar cells are commercially attractive.

Currently sunlight is converted into electricity through silicon solar cells. Now it’s an upfront cost that most can not afford to buy. Others are Leasing and community solar. So recent improvements to perovskite solar cells result in a valid alternative to silicon. Most noteworthy with the efficiency utilizes the 1% of British sunlight. All needed to fulfill current energy demands.

Again so back in 2014, speakers at the Rump Session for Organo-metal Halide Perovskite-based Solar Cells seminar learned. These cells are revealing that size and orientation of the material’s crystals determine everything in perovskite performance.
